It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Janet Paluck Thompson, 84, of Edison, N.J., who passed away at home early Thursday morning, March 23, 2023, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Alden Station, March 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Mary Rudowski Paluck.
Janet is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert R. Thompson Jr.; sons, Rob (Wendy) Thompson, Waxhaw, N.C.; and Kirk (Dr. Lisa Drago) Thompson, Garnet Valley; grandchildren, Steven and Mary Thompson, Garnet Valley; brother, Gerald (Linda) Paluck, Dallas; and sister, Nancy (Michael) Tkatch, Dallas.
Jan was a proud graduate of Newport Twp. High School, Class of 1956. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Penn State University and Master of Education degree from Kean College.
Jan was a dedicated educator, always focusing on what was in the best interest of students by setting high standards and challenging students and colleagues alike. She will be missed and remembered by many lives she touched.
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and colleague enjoyed traveling, especially to Bermuda, the Florida Keys and San Antonio, and camping around the U.S. when the boys were young.
Then, as she enjoyed retirement, the family would look forward to the get-together every summer when her party-planning skills shined brightly with an outstanding menu, including her specialty, Conch Chowder.
Jan found pleasure in reading broadly, tending to her garden and houseplants, was always ready to try new recipes, was inspired by Jimmy Buffett music and loved home decorating. She was an ardent Penn State fan and would coach from the comfort of her living room on game day.
The family would like to thank the physicians and nursing staff of Hackensack Meridian Health at JFK, Edison, N.J., and the office of Dr. Gregory Shypula for their care and compassion during her illness.
A Parastas service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, by His Eminence Archbishop Melchisdeck. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time. Private interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to contribute, in Janet's memory to The Anthracite Heritage Foundation, 67-69 Public Square, 15th Floor, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701, www.ahfdn.org; Brandywine Valley SPCA, 290 Churchmans Road, New Castle, DE 19720, www.bvspca.org; or a favorite charity, educational institution or public library.

Dear Bob, Robert, and Kirk,
Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss. Your mother was not only a colleague at WWMS, but she became my Supervisor before we both retired. I was a pleasure to work with her. Even though she was busy, your mom was an outstanding and generous hostess with her Christmas parties for her English Dept. staffs from 3 schools. Whenever she was in the building, she would take the time to chat and ask about my family. Then when I asked about you, Robert and Kirk, she smiled and shared your most recent accomplishments. Your mother was very proud of you. I hope that your memories of your mom will help you during this difficult time.
