Jason Filip Obituary

Jason Filip, 36, of Hanover Twp., passed away tragically as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018.

He was born July 13, 1981, in Nesbitt Hospital, Kingston.

He was an avid fisherman who knew every good fishing hole in the Susquehanna River. He started fishing with his Grandpa from the time he could hold a pole. He also enjoyed going hunting.

His all-time favorite hobby was his garden. He could grow anything, from a blueberry plant to the biggest head of cabbage you would ever see. He kept his Grandpa's grapevine growing and thriving for many years.

Jason was a graduate of Hanover Area High School and was last employed by the Hanover Twp. Road Department.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Frank and Helen Rinkevich; stepgrandparents, George and Elizabeth Taggart; uncle, Richard Rinkevich; and cherished pet dogs, Cody and Squirt.

He is survived by his loving parents, Dwayne and Eileen Taggart; a brother, Michael Filip; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday from Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Thank you to the members of the Hanover Twp. Police Department, Fire Department, EMS and other agencies for their services to Jason that horrible night.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help defray the cost of the funeral.

Eileen, Dwayne, & Michael ~~ My heart is broken for all of you. Never, ever do we expect to have a tragedy like this in our lives. I was in Hershey at a Doctor's appointment from Tuesday & got home very early Friday morning. If I was home, you know your cousin would have been there for all of you. My Mom kept me in touch, & she, with her advanced age (almost 88 now) your Aunt Bert, couldn't attend Jason's services either. I am so, so sorry I don't have the words. You are all loved more than you will ever know. Our condolences, thoughts & love are with you all at this time. We will keep Jason and all of you in our prayers. God Bless. Until you meet again, know Jason is safe in God's arms. Love, your cousin Gail & Aunt Bert. <3 <3

To Jason's family and friends, my condolences. I met Jason only hours before his passing at the cancer benefit. I knew one person at the event. She had helped me take care of my sister, who had passed away from breast cancer only a few weeks earlier. I was seated at a table alone when Jason approached me and we began a conversation. We chatted a while a while about various things, while he sipped on a sports drink taken from a backpack he was holding. The conversation turned to the buffet that was not quite ready and without hesitation he dug around in his backpack and tossed me a bag of pretzels. He said, "try these, you'll like them." At that, he put his backpack on a chair and disappeared into the crowd. I left the benefit before he returned to the table and I'm sorry I did not get the chance to thank him again for his kindness. I can say about Jason that he was the kind of person who would spot a stranger and make him welcome. I can say that he was he was the kind of person that gave of what he had without hesitation. Jason, I'm sorry I did not get the chance to return your kindness.
