Jean L. Danforth DeVivo Karalunas, 67, of Blakeslee, died early Monday morning, May 28, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem. She was the wife of Joseph Karalunas with whom she shared 12 years of marriage.
Born Aug. 10, 1950, in Massena, N.Y., she was one of four daughters to the late Leslie and Jennie Gilmore Danforth.
She graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in 1972, where she earned her masters of education in 1976, and reading specialist certification in 1991.
Jean was a teacher in the Stroudsburg Area School District until retiring in 2007 after 27 years of service.
She was a member of Pennsylvania State Education Association, PSRS, Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and Big Pocono Ski Club; and was a former member of Pocono Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as membership chairman.
Jean was also a member of East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, where she served on various committees and was in the bell choir.
She enjoyed being outside gardening on a beautiful day, cooking, playing with her grandchildren, learning something new, reading a good book, being on the water, traveling, spending time with friends and family and being next to the love of her life, her Beau Joe.
In addition to her husband, surviving are two daughters, Christie Jean DeVivo, Mt. Laurel, N.J.; and Stacy DeVivo Massi and husband. Douglas. Saylorsburg; two grandsons, George and James Massi, Saylorsburg; three sisters, Elaine Danforth Wiltsey and husband, Mark, Lake Ozonia, N.Y.; Carole Danforth Wentink and husband, Robert, Reno, Nev.; and Dorothy Danforth Baker and husband, Steve of Bradenton, Fla.; a niece, Kati Dayner, Reno, Nev.; a nephew, Greg Baker, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a cousin, Nancy Lejeune, Trego, Mont.; three step-children, Jared Karalunas and wife, Kelly, Lancaster, S.C.; Tyler Karalunas and wife, Rianna, Dallas; and Emily Karalunas, Philadelphia; and a step-granddaughter, Clair Karalunas, Lancaster, S.C.

Services will be held with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 4 at William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg, with the Rev. James Todd officiating. Cremation was private.
