Jeffrey Namey Obituary

Jeffrey T. Namey, 76, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, in PAM Specialty Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, after many medical challenges.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Jeffrey was a son of the late Elias Leo and Claire Ralston Namey.

He was also preceded in death by brother, Lee A. Namey.

A 1964 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, he pursued further education at Wilkes University as well as Bucknell University. He was awarded his Doctorate of Education from Temple University and later taught graduate courses on their behalf.

A 42-year employee of Wilkes-Barre Area School District, he was proud to serve as superintendent of schools for the final 16 years of his career prior to his retirement in August 2012.

Jeffrey was actively involved in the E.L. Meyers High School Quarterback Club, Wyoming Valley Drug and Alcohol, Children's Service Center and many other organizations and committees.

A die-hard Penn State football fan, he was also a loyal supporter of the New York Yankees and a favorite pastime was having lunch with "the guys." However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren in his beloved Avalon, N.J.

He is survived by his children, Debra L. Namey, King of Prussia; son, Jeffrey E. Namey and wife, Claudine, Moorestown, N.J.; grandchildren, Ava and Elias; ex-wife, Diane Namey; and his much loved Yorkshire Terrier, Snickers. His family also includes sister-in-law, Juanita Namey and her daughters, Angela and Tara; as well as numerous cousins.

Jeffrey dedicated his life to his family and constantly reinforced the value of education and service to others.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the outstanding medical teams from Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, PAM Specialty Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, and Highland Manor Rehabilitation, Exeter.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services with the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be held privately in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Blue Chip Animal Refuge.

Dearest NameyFamily ,
Dr. Jeffrey drove me to my very first Prom in His beautiful vintage Pale yellow car on a very sleeting snowy evening! He was a true Gentleman who carefully lifted my gown as He held my hand to get in the back seat (no He wasn´t my escort ... ) it was a great ride downtown to the Y ...Teen Prom with his cousin by my side!
We maintained a great rapport ever after!
My Most Sincerest and Deepest condolences to Dear Diane, Debbie and Jeffrey and Family!
A Life Well Lived and The Love of All who knew Him!
May the entire Namey Family continue to "Go from Strength to Strength " as you All loose another member of your Beloved Family!

My lifelong experiences with Jeff began with our tight Namey family relationships then expanded into a professional setting with the W-B SD. With his being an admired mentor in my youth, I was even more impressed with our later in life relationship. Such a fine man and gentleman. With great sorrow, I express my most sincere condolences to Diane, his children, and all amongst Jeffrey's family and friends.
