It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved John Caruthers.
John Caruthers, 63, of Edwardsville, passed away peacefully, after fighting a long courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, May 25, 2024. He was surrounded and supported by his loved ones and caregivers during the last days of his life at Sacred Heart Hospice, Dunmore.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Feb. 9, 1961, he was the son of the late John and Violet Gorgol Caruthers and was a lifelong resident of Edwardsville. John worked for 24 years at G.T. Fabrications; was artistic; enjoyed vintage cars; and loved animals and music. He collected 1972 flood memorabilia; had a unique sense of humor; but most importantly, he loved spending time with his children. He loved shopping with his daughter, Jessica, and watching boxing matches with his son, John.
During his numerous chemo treatments and radiation sessions, he never gave up and always had hope.
Left to cherish his memory are his two children who he loved more than anything, John Caruthers Jr., Edwardsville; Jessica Rae Caruthers-Turner and her husband, Nicholas Turner, Avoca; sister, Lori Caruthers McCann and her husband, Brian, Shavertown; aunts, Lorraine Wolf, Middletown, Del.; Mary Butczynski and her husband, Dick of Carlisle; uncle, Henry Caruthers, Plains Twp.; and cousins.
A funeral service to say one last goodbye to a wonderful man and loving father will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday from Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville, with interment following in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle.
Friends are invited to join the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for their kindness, care and compassion they gave John in his final days.
