John Knowles Obituary

Lt. John Thomas Knowles, U.S. Navy, retired, 82, of Charleston, S.C., husband of Lois Ann Knowles, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at home.

John was born Dec. 15, 1929, in Wilkes-Barre to John Thomas Knowles and Florence Knowles.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He was an avid reader, stamp and coin collector, and a history buff.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; his children, Drew Knowles and wife, Lauren, North Richland Hills, Texas; Mark Knowles, Palmetto, Fla.; and Beth Churchill and husband, Eddie, Monroe, Wash.; sister, Betty Hulsizer, Painesville, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as four grandchildren, Max, Abby, Alex and Rose.

A memorial service was held Jan. 23 at Ashley Park Retirement Home, Charleston, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Methodist or Piedmont Hospice.

Arrangements were handled by Palmetto Cremation Society, 11 Cunnington Ave., Charleston, S.C., 843-722-2555.
