John Poder, 86, of Hughestown, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Born, Dec. 4, 1937, in Pittston he was the son of the late Adolph and Stella Yunkunis Poder.
John graduated from West Pittston High School, and served in the National Guard.
He worked as a Data Processing Manager at Freidman Express, until its closure and retired from Social Security Administration as a benefits notice clerk.
John was life long golfer, starting at the age of 7 as a caddy at Fox Hill Country Club, he was a 40-year member of Wyoming Valley Country Club and most recently a member at Emanon Country Club. Over countless rounds of golf, John had six holes-in-one and a double eagle.
He was an avid Penn State and Boston Red Sox fan.
John is survived by his wife of 50 years Barbara Laska Poder, sister, Nancy Poder, West Pittston, brother, Frank Poder and wife Diane, Exeter, nephew Cody Poder and wife Julianna, Pittston and great niece Savannah.
In accordance with John's wishes, services are private.
