John Slavinski Obituary
Born on Feb. 17, 1924 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late George and Anna Paulik Slavinsky. Educated in Wilkes-Barre Area schools, he was member of the 1941 graduating class of James M. Coughlin High School.
He was a member of Holy Assumption of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre.
Mr. Slavinski proudly served his country during both World War II and the Korean Conflict in both our U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
Until his retirement, Mr. Slavinski has been employed by King Fifth Wheel Corp., and previously by the Certainteed Corp., both of Mountain Top and by the Kanarr Corp. Aircraft Manufacturing of Wilkes-Barre.
For his military duties, he held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Anthracite Post 283 in Kingston and the American Legion Post 781 in Mountain Top.
He and his wife, the former Loretta A. Charnoski celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 12, 2008.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore; and by sisters, Verna Ricci and Mary Feiss.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Loretta, at home, are brothers, George, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Francis, Hawley; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Slavinski will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. with a Memorial Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial in Holy Assumption of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Very Rev. James G. Hayer, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, South Main Street, Hanover Township.
At the family's request, there will be no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are asked to go directly to the church for services.

i worked with teddy slavinaki at wilkes-barre publshing co. and remember him selling papers on Square in Wilkes-Barre. if this is a brother, my sympathies and prayers are offered.
