John Charles Zoranski, 83, of Kingston, fell asleep in the Lord surrounded by his loved ones Friday afternoon, March 24, 2023, at his home.
His beloved wife of 43 years was the late Doris Washington Wasickanin Zoranski, who fell asleep in the Lord on April 13, 2010. John and Doris were united in marriage on Sept. 3, 1966, and they settled in Kingston, where together they raised their children.
Born on May 7, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, John was the son of the late Edmund B. Zoranski and Helen R. Romanowski Zoranski.
Raised in Kingston, John was a graduate of the former Kingston High School, Class of 1957. Following high school, he went on to attend King's College, Wilkes-Barre, where, in 1961, he attained his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. John also furthered his education at the University of Utah.
After college, John became employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, working as an insurance agent for 11 years. In 1963, he became employed by the Block Drug Company, Jersey City, N.J. Throughout his 28-year tenure with Block Drug, John held numerous positions with the company, most notably serving as the managing director of its Dental School Division at the time of his retirement and representing the company as its guest lecturer on all company products.
John was a devout member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, Wilkes-Barre, where, over the years, he served as a member of its trustee board, a member of its executive committee, co-chairman of its dedication committee and chairperson of its iconography painting project. Active within the Orthodox Church in America, John served at the Diocesan level for the Wilkes-Barre Deanery and at the National Level for the Metropolitan Council.
A man of many enjoyments, John enjoyed doing many things with his family and friends - going on cruises, beach vacations and visiting many places throughout the world, having cookouts in his backyard, pool parties and going out to share a meal. He was also a great fan and supporter of Penn State University, most especially the Penn State Nittany Lions football program, of which he was a long-time season ticket holder.
John will be remembered best for the love and devotion he had for his loved ones, as well as for his strong faith and his zealous support of his church both locally and nationally. May he forever bask in the glory of his Lord and Saviour with his beloved wife, his beautiful children and all his loved ones who were awaiting his return to the Kingdom.
In addition to his parents, Edmund and Helen, and his wife, Doris, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Chrysa Zoranski, who fell asleep in the Lord on Oct. 20, 1971; son, John Lawrence Zoranski, who fell asleep in the Lord on Dec. 31, 1975; and older brother, Edmund Zoranski.
Left to cherish John's memory are his loving daughter, Kyra E. Zoranski, an officer with PNC Bank in Raleigh, N.C.; best friend, Nancy J. Bartle, Jenkins Twp., who John was very fortunate to share his life with these past years; many friends; and nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John's viewing and funeral service which will both be held in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, 591 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday with Panikhida to be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. A requiem funeral service for John will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Gregory G. White Sr., his pastor, serving as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Eastern Orthodox Lawn of Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.

Nancy and I were remembering how Foster used to look at John after dinner and hope he would leave so Nancy and Foster could go to bed. John always sat in the blue chair Foster thought was his.
