Kandi Ann Steele passed away on March 17, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in
Cleveland, OH on March 22, 1946.
Throughout her life she lived in
Berkeley, CA,
Everett, WA, and
Salt Lake City, UT.
She met Robin Burgener Steele, the love of her life, on February 14, 1997. They have been happily married since December 14, 2015. She was the proud mother of two daughters, grandmother of three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Kandi graduated from Berkeley High School in California. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Utah, and her Master of Social Work from the University of Utah.
Throughout her career she worked at Valley Mental Health and the Utah State Department of Corrections. In addition, she volunteered with many organizations including: serving as a board member for thirty years with Utah Legal Services, on the University of Utah Hospital Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and with the 2002 Olympics and Paralympics. She also volunteered with substance abuse counseling, at risk youth, and with the local LGBT community. She tried to help everyone that needed help.
Kandi was a Christian woman her whole life and always wore a medallion of St. Anthony of Padua and St. Jude. She loved both the winter and summer Olympics. She was a huge fan of University of Utah football, gymnastics and women's basketball and would attend as many events as possible. She enjoyed watching parades including the Rose Parade and the Utah 24th of July Parade. Boating and fishing at Bear Lake, Rockport and Echo Reservoir with her family was a treasured part of her life.
She is survived by her wife Robin, daughters Liz (Keith) Garcia and Teri (Neldon) Critchlow; three grandchildren Alisha, Kathleen, and Scott; and three great grandchildren Aliyah, Mason, and Aria. She is also survived by her sister Jill (Bill) Ramage. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Grace Hoffman, mother, Kathleen McCoy, and brother, Mac McCoy.
