Lawrence J. Summerlin, 74, of Luzerne, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 23, 2024, in Commonwealth Health Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
He was born in Elizabeth, N.J., youngest of the late Lawrence and Eleanor Conway Summerlin.
He was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School, Elizabeth, N.J., Class of 1968. He worked for McCarthy Tire Service in Wilkes-Barre for 36 years and later worked for Lowe's.
To those who knew him, he was "Larry," an ever loyal father, husband and worker. He had a huge spot in his heart for his oldies, especially Elvis, and never changed the station in his car. He was a man of few words, choosing rather to let his personality shine through his attire - a lover of Hawaiian shirts, there was no such thing as too loud and he was particularly proud to wear the ones sewn by his wife. He dabbled in photography for a while and really took to adult coloring in recent years, adorning his house and his daughter's home with his masterpieces. He was always a hard worker and especially loved his job at Lowe's as he loved talking to people and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rita and Barbara Ann.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Lloyd Summerlin; children, Tracy Summerlin, Dickson City; and Renee Summerlin, Luzerne and her wife, Jenn; and beloved cats, Lou and Smokey.
Private funeral services will be held.

Sorry to hear of Larry´s passing. Dorothy, sorry for your loss. Larry and I were good friends in Elizabeth, NJ. We were in the Boy Scouts together, in the same patrol and worked together at Ritz Drugs. We use to play basketball and stickball together near his house. He convinced his dad to let me use his dad´s car for my senior prom. Good friends who unfortunately lost touch after high school. My sympathy to all his loved ones.

He was a great friend. And a family man. He would talk your ear off about his family. At Lowe's or the McCarthy tires.

Thinking of Larry today. We worked together at Lowe´s for a little while. He really did love the customers he came in touch with and made sure they were well taken care of. He was such a kind man. Hugs and prayers for his family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. As your long time neighbor there was never a project, trip or anything I was doing that Larry didn't offer his advice or give me something to help make things easier. I will truly miss you. RIP Larry.
