M. Grace Dowd

M. Dowd Obituary

M. Grace Dowd of Plains Township, and formerly of Pittston, entered into eternal rest on Sunday.

She was the widow of William Francis Dowd, who passed away on April 19, 1978.

She was born on April 7, 1921, in Pittston, the daughter of the late Michael J. and Margaret Murphy Madden. She was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston.

Prior to retirement, she was employed by Potlach Corp., Ranson. She was a union official for many years for the United Paperworkers International Union.

She was past district president of the American Auxiliary Unit 0644, Swoyersville. She also was a former member of the College Regents of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, West Pittston. She was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Parish, Pittston, and St. Mary's Women's Society.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Madden, Houston, Texas; and Joseph Madden, Silver Springs, Md.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Mary Grace Loncoski and her husband, Michael, Plains Township; grandson, Michael William Loncoski and his wife, Shannon, Falmouth, Maine; and Cameron; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dowd's wishes were to have a private funeral. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday in St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church, Pittston, with the Rev. Thomas J. Maloney as celebrant.

Interment followed in the parish cemetery, Pittston.

Her family asks that all memorial gifts be made to St. Mary's Assumption Church, Pittston.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, Plains Township.
