Mary Pratz Obituary

Mary Kuznicki Pratz, 92, of Nanticoke passed away peacefully Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Celtic Hospice inpatient unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

She was born in Nanticoke on Aug. 12, 1921, a daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Michno Kuznicki. Mary graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1938.

A life-long resident of Nanticoke, Mary worked in local factories for many years. She was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish and formerly Holy Trinity Church prior to the consolidation of parishes.

Mary loved to garden and crochet. If you ever visited Mary, you would most likely find her in her garden where she would gladly show you the flowers currently in bloom. Over the years she made hundreds of crocheted hats and scarves for needy school children and newborns in the hospital as well as lap covers for nursing home residents. She often went to her doctor appointments with crocheted gifts for the nursing staff.

Her husband, Andrew, passed away on Dec. 4, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her son, Andrew; brothers, John and Henry Kuznicki; and sisters, Helen Yankoski, Josephine Sulewski, Ann (Lottie) Torre and Frances Krynick.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Ulanoski and her husband, Robert, of Atascadero, Calif.; a sister, Theresa Arbchesky of Larksville; three grandchildren, Lynn Galgan, Andrew Pratz and Cole Ulanoski; four great-grandchildren, John and Riley Galgan and Ashley and Melody Pratz; as well as nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held in the future at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are being handled by Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke.

Jeanette. I was so sorry to hear of your mom's recent passing. May and I recently spoke of you and your mom, wondering how you both were. I fondly remember our Sunday drives with my Mom and your parents and their also introducing me to my first lobster tail in a restaurant. They were both thoughtful, kind and generous people. I can still hear your mother calling you "Jeanetteka". Many years have passed but the memories will always linger on.

Sincere condolences to the family of Mrs.Pratz. I did not know her, but notice she graduated from Nanticoke High School, class of 1938, the same class as my late mother, Lydia Greenbaum Berman, who died in 2005. They were obviously contemporaries from the "greatest generation." My grandfather, Adolph Greenbaum, who died in 1951 when I was three years old, had a dress factory on West Broad St. in Nanticoke.
