Mary Yurkanin Obituary

Mary Yurkanin, 95, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012, in United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus, Pittston.

Born in Plains Township on Oct. 18, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Kozarski. She formerly was a resident of Port Blanchard.

Before retiring, she had been employed by General Cigar Co., Kingston, and Consolidated Cigar, West Pittston.

Mary enjoyed canning and in the early 1980s she was a volunteer for Wesley Village and Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; sisters, Helen Dombrowski, Alice Malarkey, Anna Shershen and Olga Gilchieter; and brother, Anthony Kozarski.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the employees of Wesley Village and volunteers for the compassionate care Mary received, including Dr. James Bruno and Erwine Home Health and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Wesley Village Campus, 129 Roberts Road, Pittston, PA 18640; Erwine Home Health and Hospice Inc., 270 Pierce St., Suite 101, Kingston, PA 18704; or St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 321 Chestnut Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.

There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Arrangements are by Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston.
