Michael T. Alves, 58, of Shavertown, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a brief battle with cancer on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023.
Michael was born March 4, 1965, in New Jersey. He graduated from Woodbridge High School, New Jersey, and attended Misericordia University. Mike spent his entire career in automobile sales and management; most recently he was employed as the general manager for Jo-Dan Buick, GMC Moosic.
In addition to his mother, Jane Alves, Mike is survived by his wife of almost 28 years, Lisa Lombardo Alves; son, Michael Alves, Pittston; daughters, Ashlie Alves, Shavertown; and Lauren Alves, Marina del Rey, Calif.; brother, Anthony Alves and his wife, Christine, New Jersey; brother-in-law, Michael Lombardo and his wife, Susan, Pittston; brother-in-law, Joseph Lombardo, Pittston; brother-in-law, James Lombardo and wife, Kim, Jenkins Twp.; brother-in-law, Francis Lombardo, Wilkes-Barre; sister-in-law, Michelle Albolino and her husband, Marc, Jenkins Twp.; brother-in-law, Robert Lombardo and his wife, Jennifer, Pittston; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a stadium (Giants) worth of friends.
During his career in automobile sales and management, which started in his early 20s; Mike served as a mentor to many young sales people, modeling client relationships and challenging those around him to be better. Mike will be remembered for his honesty, kind nature and great sense of humor (which may have been a coping mechanism as the result of being a lifelong New York Giants fan). He loved cars, boats and sports; particularly the Giants and the Yankees. More than anything, Mike loved his family and friends and enjoyed having "everyone" around, Mike's super hero quality was his willingness to help anyone. His gentle kind spirit will be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
His wife, Lisa, and his family would like to thank all of his family, friends and co-workers who made these final months special by visiting, sharing stories and laughing about the antics of Mike Alves. A very special thank you is extended to Mike's employer, the Limongelli family for their unwavering love, support and commitment to Mike and his family. They truly went above and beyond and demonstrated the values of a family owned and run business. A special thanks to Hospice of the Scared Heart for Mike's care in his final days.
Memorial donations in Mike's honor may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Mike and I bonded over our undying love of the New York Giants. I think we may have been the only two such fans in all of Fresno. He was a class act and will be missed.
