Michael Bibak Obituary

Michael (Mike) Bibak, 77, of Throop died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, in Mercy Hospital Acute Care Unit from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on July 14, 2010, in Olyphant.

Born in Olyphant, son of the late Michael and Katherine Shevinsky Bibak, he resided in Olyphant until his marriage to Mary Kochis on Jan. 23, 1960, after which they resided in Throop.

He was a 50-year member of St. John the Baptist Church, Throop, now Blessed Sacrament Parish.

He was a 1950 graduate of Olyphant High School, where he excelled and lettered in basketball, baseball and football.

He retired in 1987 from Harper & Row Publishers, where he was employed for 25 years as a data processing operations manager.

Mike was a loving and devoted husband and had unconditional love for his children. Mike's greatest joy in life was time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He took great pleasure attending sporting events and activities in which his children and grandchildren were involved. He taught them invaluable life lessons both on and off the court.

Mike was airflighted to Thomas Jefferson Teaching Hospital on July 15, 2010, where he remained in intensive care until Sept. 25. He was then transferred to Mercy Hospital, where he remained in the Acute Care Unit until his death.

Mike's family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Anees Fogley and the staffs of Mercy Special Care and Thomas Jefferson hospitals for their excellent care and kindness extended to our beloved husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by two daughters, Katrina Simonetti and her husband, Bob, Plains Township; and Melanie Kosin and her husband, Thomas, Olyphant; one son, Michael J. Bibak and his companion, Erica Evelock, Eynon; five grandchildren, Michael John Shegda and his fiancee, Cortney Laird, Shavertown; Nicholas Shegda and his fiancee, Gina Nardone, Sugar Notch; Julie Kosin, a student at Syracuse University; Joshua and Olivia Kosin, Olyphant; one great-granddaughter, Cassidy Monroe; and one sister, Ann Dutka.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Julie Bibak and Marie Dutka; and three brothers, Nicholas, Frank and Andrew Dutka.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 402 Boulevard Ave., Dickson City, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Parish, Rebecca Street, Throop.

Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Throop.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Dear Michael, and Family, I knew Michael well, we were raised on the same block and experienced all the things that were the best and the worst of being raised in the flats of Olyphant. Knickers, High cut boots,w/ pen knife. The sled rides down the column dumps (with or without snow), flying kites and playing marbles, patches in the pants. Going to school at Central grade school. He gave us our first puppy from his dogs litter. He was a great football player and lots of other great things, but most of all he was a good friend.... God Bless all of you!

Mike,
Was a great man. He had an influence on many people. He hired me and many others. He gave us our lives!
I am sure he is in a better place right now. He is laughing right now in heaven with his very good sense of humor.
