Rita M. Rittenhouse, 92, of Plymouth, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Pikes Creek on Nov. 4, 1928, and was the daughter of the late William Sr. and Margaret O'Kane Sayre.
Rita graduated from Lehman High School before becoming employed as a seamstress with various dress shops and garment factories throughout the Wyoming Valley. She was an avid bowler and was well loved within the bowling community. Rita was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Judd" Rittenhouse; daughter, Gail Biniek; son-in-law, Thomas J. Biniek, Sr.; grandson, Heath Jared Rittenhouse; granddaughter, Amanda Rittenhouse; brothers, William, Walter and Elwood Sayre; and sister, Audrey Lamoreaux.
She is survived by sons, Donald "Peanut" Rittenhouse, Gerald Rittenhouse, Jr. and wife Donna, Jeff Rittenhouse and wife Mary and Mark Rittenhouse and wife Brenda; sisters, Beverly Tirpak and Carol White; brother, Craig Sayre; step-mother, Lillian Sayre; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. Laura Kyler, Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church, officiating.
Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lake Twp.
