Robert Gimble Obituary
Robert G. Gimble, 88, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, in UPMC Williamsport.
Robert's wife, the former Evelyn Lesnick, passed away April 1, 2004.
He was born May 18, 1933, in Kingston, and was the son of George and Clara Yarmakovich Gimble.
He was a 1951 graduate of Meyers High School, having competed in football, basketball and baseball. In 1952, he attended Wyoming Seminary. Robert was a 1956 graduate of Muhlenberg College, where he played football. He taught math and coached at South Side Junior High School, Newburgh, N.Y., West Pittston High School and Meyers High School. In 1963, he moved to Williamsport to be the head football coach, later becoming the athletic director until his retirement in 1995. Robert served as treasurer for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association and president of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control. In 1996, he was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Director of the Year. Robert officiated basketball games for 38 years, including PIAA playoff games for 21 years. He also officiated football games, including a Big 33 game, Coaches East-West game and a PIAA state final. Robert was the secretary/treasurer for Eastern Football Conference, which is comprised of 128 schools. In 2018, he was inducted into the PIAA Hall of Fame. He served on the PSADA executive council as treasurer, vice president and then president. Robert was the recipient of the PSADA Distinguished Service Award and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association State Award of Merit.
Robert was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, loved watching all types of sports and was an avid Boston Red Socks fan. He was a charter member for the Loyalsock Twp. Community Pool.
He is survived by a son, Robert (Lora) Gimble II, New Cumberland; a daughter, Judith Gimble, Butler; a granddaughter, Hana Gimble; a brother, George (Lorna) Gimble, South Wilkes-Barre; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Claire Jones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road, Williamsport, with the Rev. John Chmil officiating. Burial will be at 12:45 p.m. Thursday in St. Anthony Cemetery, Courtdale. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2102 Northway Road, Williamsport.
The family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions in Robert's name be made to St. Ann Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.

On behalf of the PIAA District II Committee, former and current Athletic Directors and the member schools, our sincere condolences on the loss of Bob.
He was a great person and I know everyone appreciated his guidance and advice through the years as a school administrator, member of PIAA Board of Directors´ and PIAA referee.

George: My deepest sympathy on Bobby´s death. I well remember his exploits on the field at Meyers, as well as your own. I was also sorry to read that Claire had died. Quite a few of the old "MARLBOROUGH" scamps have left the scene.

Bob was truly one of the best people I ever had the privilege to know. He was so loyal and supportive of our family, especially to our mother. He was the kind of person you felt would be around forever. Losing him is a terrible loss. Love to Bob, Judy and the Gimble family.
