Roberta Ruth Walter Boyd, 83, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at home surrounded and embraced by loved ones.
She was born June 29, 1938, in Kingston, daughter of the late Robert E. Walter and Marjorie Walter. She attended Kingston High School, as well as the Bradford Beauty Academy. She was married in 1956, and with her husband, Carl Remington Boyd, they created the band "The Nomads," of which for 10 years, she'd play the bass and sing at various establishments around the Wyoming Valley area. In 1979, she won "Best Female Singer" in the Country and Western Blue Grass Band Association. She would then move onto the arts and homemaking, both of which she also found herself gifted. She'd go on to create many beautiful portraits and paintings which would capture both the essence of her object and the hearts of the observers. Her cooking was without parallel, and she was a gracious host throughout all the holidays for family and friends. She was the savior of many cats and kittens. Her nurturing, spirited and compassionate soul touched the hearts of everyone who came to know her and she will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Carl Boyd; daughters, Cheryl Lawson and Donna Boyd; sons Robert Boyd, Christopher Boyd and Jeremy Boyd; grandchildren, Amber, Candida and Lolita Lawson; Remington and Katie Boyd; as well as seven great-grandchildren.
