Ronald Goss Obituary

Ronald Goss Sr., 85, of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at home.

Born in Plymouth, Ronald was the son of the late Willard and Ruth Harrison Goss.

Over the past 23 years, Ronald courageously battled cancer. Through it all, he remained incredibly positive.

Ronald was a proud military man who served in the U.S. Navy. As part of this service, he worked on the USS Casa Grande LSD 13, USS Rushmore LSD 14 and the USS Saratoga Aircraft Carrier CV 60.

To many, he was known as "Poppy Goss." Poppy lit up any room he walked into by showing his goofy, crooked smile and hearty laugh. He lived his life with positivity, pride and honesty. Poppy enjoyed cracking jokes, dancing around to his favorite country hits and coming up with song lyrics. He was an avid song writer who created numerous witty yet heartfelt songs.

His dedication to provide for his family was proven in his hard work at numerous employers such as Sam's Club, Pep Boys and Kratz Fence Company.

Poppy was proud of the family that he and his wife Dottie built together.

In his later years, he enjoyed sitting on his porch feeding the birds and squirrels. He loved playing cards, caring for his dogs and visiting his Dottie at the cemetery. Poppy will be remembered by the way he made everyone feel happy, cared for and loved.

Ronald will forever be an incredible role model. May we all honor his spirit through kindness and compassion.

Ronald was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Dorothy T. Goss; and by his daughter, Dorothy Goss.

Ronald is survived by his children, Deborah Wozniak, Donna Fassett, Cynthia Goss, Rhonda Hidock, Ronald Goss Jr. and Randall Goss and his wife, Lorri Goss; grandchildren, Jodie, Jennifer, Stacy, Shannon, Frank, JJ, Shelby, Chelsey, Amanda and Tyler; and eight great-grandchildren.

A private funeral service was held. Ronald will be laid to rest Monday in Calvery Cemetery, Drums.

Funeral arrangements were made from Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home, Nanticoke.

The family asks that any donations made in Ronald's honor go towards the American Cancer Society or the Luzerne County SPCA.

To all of my cousins with sympathy,
I lack words to express my sadness of uncle Ronny's passing. Good people make their exit in life faster than evil people. He touched lives without leaving a space for doubt in our hearts. He was greatly loved, respected and admired. I will remain grateful to God for the lifetime opportunity to know him and aunt Dot. They both were very inspiring, and family meant everything. The love and respect they had for each other is nothing short of a fairy tale, and now reunited, they can continue to live happily ever after in the Kingdom of God. May his soul rest in eternal peace. My sincere condolences.
