Simon Borys, 79, of Kingston, formerly of Mystic, Conn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center with his wife, Kate, by his side.
Born in Mountain Top, he was the son of the late Peter and Anna Potichko Borys.
Simon was a graduate of Meyers High School and soon after entered the Army. Upon completion, he resided in Connecticut and was employed by Pfizer and later General Dynamics.
Si loved saltwater fishing and became an advocate of land conservation, spending hours clearing away the dead and replanting new growth.
Si enjoyed his huge garden, sharing the vegetables with neighbors and the local soup kitchen.
Sadly, during his later years he suffered with a truly debilitating disease, dementia. The return back to Pennsylvania to the arms of family and friends was made with a grateful heart. Recent care was at Kingston Manor in the Memory Care Unit.
One of the remaining blessings of his illness was his strong, enduring faith and his funny, tireless sense of humor. The staff always teased and joked with Si, making him respond and his life easier.
In addition to his parents, Simon was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Tubbs Cochrane; Catherine Williams; and Anna Gabel; sons, Michael and Sean; and grandson, Patrick Coffey.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Leonard Borys; daughter, Ruthanne Thompson (Ray), Norwich, Conn.; son, David Borys, West Wyoming; grandchildren, Chanel, David and Olivia; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday in St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 N. Maple Ave., Kingston. Masks are strongly encouraged at the church.
Arrangements are by Harold C. Snowdon Home for Funerals Inc., Kingston.
