Stella Chipego Chismer

Stella Chismer of Luzerne met her heavenly Father and family Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015.

She was the wife of Adam Chismer, who passed away in 1989.

Stella was born in Swoyersville, on Dec. 14, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Madeline Muha Chipego.

She attended Swoyersville schools and was a member of Holy Family Parish in Luzerne.

Stella had worked in various sewing factories and cigar factories. She loved to sew, can vegetables, and cook and bake. She spent hours in her yard, tending and pruning.

Her special joys were family functions. She loved listening to the radio and watching the polkas on television. She prayed the rosary every day.

In addition to her husband, Adam, Stella was preceded in death by her son, Jerome; daughter, Dorothy Karavis; and several brothers and sisters.

Stella is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Jeanette Vasil and her husband, Jack, Exeter; son-in-law, Joseph Karavis, Hanover Township; her last surviving member of her siblings, brother, Daniel Chipego, Swoyersville; her loving grandson, Jay Vasil and his wife, Beth; her great grandchildren, Darcy and Jake Vasil; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday from Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett St., Luzerne, with the Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
