A group is forming at our church and I am humbled by time and pain and can see the journey is long, for me and others. How can it be 12 years? How did I miss the leaders losses just a few months earlier of a same aged child? I hope wisdom aids me in helping others, in noticing,- in caring, but I know my heart is helped by remembering and even more by the remembering of others. Adam, I remember you and your great love for others; I love your dear sweet friends and family; I love my friends and family - deeply, the way you would want me to. -mom

It's been so long since I've read these posts, and it brought me such happiness, and tears, tonight when I read them all, as I've been thinking about Adam a lot lately. Its crazy to think how much we've all changed since high school and college, and I can't help but think of where he'd be in life now.. married? kids? so forth... I'm still so sad for the loss of one of my best friends since childhood. I love you, Adam, and I love the Kincaid family. Always have, always will.

It is with a heavy heart that write, nearly three years after Adam died. So many wonderful memories from the 23 years and 8 months of Adam and more stil in the years since his passing with so much support, love, grace, and exploration, for how to move forward. Or, how to move at all. He would be so proud of us for staying the course, coping the best we can, loving the most we can, and finding joy and happiness where we can. We miss him terribly. The pain doesn't go away. We simply develop muscles to carry it better. Thanks for all the love and support extended to us and others in hours of need. A candle stays lit in our home at all times, reminding us of the true source of light and love, that we witnessed through Adam's life with us.

Dear Kincaid Family,
We lived in GSO from 1997-2000 on O'Brient Pl. Our daughter Erin and Zach were good friends. Erin, Natalie, who is a year younger than Adam, and our son Gardner all swam and played tennis with the Kincaid kids at the Cardinal. We just heard about Adam this weekend and wanted you to know that our thoughts and prayers go out to you. I remember him as being a very kind, handsome, well-rounded young man. Our condolences to you all.
Sincerly,

Dear Kincaid Family,
I went to UNC with Adam, and roomed with Ashley last summer. As a result I became very close friends with Adam. I remember telling Ashley that, after getting to know Adam, he was one of the most generous people I'd ever met, period. He possessed true generosity, because when he gave, he expected absolutely nothing in return. When I realized this, I knew Adam was a friend for life.. I never hesitated to help him because I knew that if I ever needed him he would be there in a heartbeat.. It is so rare to put so much faith in someone, which only attests to how amazing of a person he really was.. Few people have had such a huge impact on my life, and I am at a loss for words.. This keyboard cannot express my sorrow for you all, but I just wanted you to know how incredible of a man I thought Adam was.. I am so absolutely sorry for your loss, and I am sure I cannot begin to comprehend how you all must feel. However, his impact on this planet was nothing but positive and admirable, and I will always love him for that..

The Kincaid Family,
I just recently found out of Adam's death. I went to Northwest with Adam and Zach. I was greatly honored to be in chorus with both of them. When Adam sang cold chills would move over me. He had a voice of an angel. I was so amazed I know one day he would be something great. He had a presents about himself that no other had. He know when to be funny and when to be serious. He was friends with everyone, I true honest friend you never questioned his friendship. No one knows why God took him, but there is a reason. God had a purpose for him high than what was on earth. As you moron the death of him also rejoice for now he is an angel, now he walks on the street of gold with our Lord and Savior. Now he is our guardian angel. I am so honored to have known a wonderful man such as him.

Kincaids,
I was so shocked to hear of Adam's death. Zach had just seen Adam in Target a couple of weeks ago and they had a chance to talk for about 20 minutes. Zach says he really enjoyed the time they spent together. I know there is absolutely nothing I can do for you all at this time that can make this any easier - other than constant prayers for peace for you all. We who lose loved ones to death can rejoice in the gift God has given to those of us who accept him into our lives - the gift of eternal life with Him.

Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid,
I can not tell you of how sad it was to learn about Adams' death. My daughters always considered Adam not only as a teammate on the Cardinal swim team but as a wonderful friend, especialy Julia. I can not imagine the sorrow you feel as to the loss of your child. I know that I would be devastated if I was to have one of my daughters taken from me by death. Adam was such a shining star to all of us who were fortunate to see him grow and become a man. I hope you will take great pride and comfort in knowing " that even heaven is a better place because of his presence."

Dear Family,
I can not understand this so I must, as in all things, trust in the Lord.
It is a two edged sword - the years you have had Adam are the source of infinite joy and also infinite pain.
It seems strange to have Garth Brooks (loosely) and scripture in the same thought, but hear me out.
From Garth Brooks - the line in the song is roughly ...I could have skipped the pain but I would have missed the dance...
To never have had the chance to know Adam would have been to miss out on special smiles and memories.
From Holy Scripture: "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and he who lives and believes in me shall never die."
We mourn because we will always miss Adam; we will wonder -what might have been- and we will know those answers when it is our time to know- how ever frustrating that may be for us. As I cry, I also pray with you and for you. I know that Adam is in God's hands and I just have to remember to stay there too.
"Most merciful God, whose wisdom is beyond our understanding: deal graciously with us in our loss, surround us with your love, that we may not be overwhelmed by our loss, but have confidence in your goodness, and strength to meet the days to come, through Christ our Lord, Amen" (The Book of Common Prayer)
Don and the kids join me in thinking of you all.

Our hearts broke when we received the news of Adam. We were fortunate enough to have known Adam through Heritage Hills pool. Memories of he and Zach (another lifeguard) having fun, horsing around in the pool, will forever be etched in our minds. Adam was incredibly patient with the children (and their parents) and was so very kind & genuine. Adam always had that sweet, warm smile on his face. There was quite a void last summer with out him there - he was sorely missed. He truly touched every person who was lucky enough to have shared time with him.

Mr. & Mrs. Kincaid,
I was Adam's 11th grade English teacher. He was a dream of a student...excellent manners and conduct...always prompt..always inquisitive...always interested in what we were doing in class. He was funny. Adam was the type pupil that a teacher yearns to have in her classroom. As a parent of a 22 year old son and a 19 year old daughter myself, my love, my sympathy, and my prayers are certainly with you. May God bless you and give you the strength that you need at this time. You and Adam will meet again. I am so very sorry for your loss. The most important thing I can tell you and you already know this is that Adam loved you and you were the best parents/brothers/sisters he could have had. You did your job and you helped mold him into the christian man he became and because of this - you will see him again one day. He will blink and you will be right beside him in heaven. I look forward to the day I will see my son again also. May God give you a peace and send the Comforter to be with you for the days ahead.

He pushed me to become an Athletic Trainer, and as I graduate from Grad school in May, I will think of him. I am sorry for your loss. I will think of him always, as he helped to determine who I am as a person.

Our prayers are with your family during this difficult time. I really enjoyed knowing Adam. Wonderful memories come back to me as I remember the days of coaching him for the Cardinal swim team. He was such a joy to be around. Adam will be so missed by all the people who loved him.

Adam was dear to me. I loved that we were able to share in watching him grow up with Miles and Travis through the years. He had so many special qualities and was kind and loving. He always made me laugh. I loved watching him eat birthday cake at all the parties we had for the boys. He really loved it. Adam was a beautiful soul and a wonderful man. You did a beautiful job raising him. The hardship of his loss will be shared by all that knew him. Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you as you face this very difficult time. He will be missed and I will cherish the memory I carry of him. With heartfelt love, Annette

Adam was part of our family during his sophmore year of high school when he dated our daughter, Whitney. We will always remember his talent on the football field, basketball court and chorus stage, along with his kindness and zest for life. He has touched the lives of so many people in such a short time. May all the wonderful memories comfort you at this time. You are in our prayers.
