Dale Roll Obituary

PLAINVILLE Dale Edward Roll, 78, Plainville, died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Rooks County Nursing Home. He was born June 26, 1926, in Miami, the son of Lloyd L. and Grace A. Bliss Roll. His family moved from Florida to Kansas when he was a young boy. Dale graduated from Wellington High School in 1943. He married Charlene V. Gamble in Winfield on Oct. 22, 1949. Dale and Charlene owned and operated Roll Tank Service for 38 years in an a round Plainville. A big part of Dales life was his role as a Mason. He joined Codell Lodge No. 418 in January 1958 and became a master mason in April 1958. He joined Paradise Lodge No. 290 AF&AM of Plainville as a result of the merger in April 1968. Dale performed the duties of every chair at least once, and he served as worshipful master 10 times over his 47 years as a Mason. He was instrumental in the construction of the Lodge Hall in Plainville. He donated countless hours of his time and effort working tirelessly until the Lodges completion. Other memberships included being a member of the board of education for Plainville and Turkville for 23 years, serving as a 4-H leader for many years and he enjoyed volunteering for the Ellis County Fair for many years. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Charlene, of the family home; a daughter, Dalene Erwin, Olathe; a granddaughter, Michele Erwin Cozart and her husband, Craig, Olathe; three foster children, Diane, Chuck and Rick Gamble; three brothers, Richard, Acme, Wash., Robert and his wife, Peggy, Brookline Station, Mo., and Donald and his wife, Linda, Healton, Okla.; a sister, Betty Holt, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Cora Hobaugh; a niece, Treva Younie; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Plainville Funeral Home, 320 S.W. 2nd St., Plainville. Mr. Roll was cremated. Because Dale enjoyed the outdoors so much throughout his life, a memorial graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Plainville City Cemetery with Pastor Todd Bohrer officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hays Medical Center Hospice or Paradise Lodge No. 290 AF&AM and sent in care of Plainville Funeral Home. The family also requests as a memorial to Dale that a random act of kindness be performed in his honor.
