Gary March Obituary

Gary P. March Gary died peacefully July 7, 2013 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-year battle with prostate cancer. In nautical terms, Red Right Returning means going to your vessel's home port. Gary's last cruise was Red Right Returning into the arms of our loving God where sunny skies, soft breezes and calm waters prevail. Gary was a graduate of Rockhurst College with a BSBA, President of the School Board for Hayden High School in Topeka, Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Christ the King Church in Topeka, served on the Parish Council at Christ the King Church and board member for the Marian Clinic in Topeka. Gary was the Founder and President of March, Inc. with the following subsidiary companies: Assisted Healthcare Home Health, Assisted Services, Assisted Transportation Services, Assisted Student Transportation and All Point Transportation. One of Gary's greatest joys was achieving his captain's license with the US Coast Guard. He and Linda A. March were married on August 26, 1967, almost 46 years ago. They started out struggling as many couples do and over the years built their business and raised a family. Through it all, they loved each other well, celebrating their successes and supporting each other during difficult times. Neither of them was perfect, but they'd grown up together certain that they were a team. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Anita (Medlin) March and a sister, Gail M. Rickerman. Gary is survived by his wife Linda, two daughters: Kristen (Chris) Hane, Gretchen (Ryan) Hembree and five grandchildren: Madisen, Joe and Drew Hane, Charlie and Samantha Hembree. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Juanita) March and sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. A rosary will be said at 6:00PM on Thursday, July 11th at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with a visitation to follow from 6:30 to 8:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00Noon, Friday, July 12th at the church with entombment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Michael the Archangel Endowment Fund, 14251 Nall Ave, Leawood, KS 66223 or the Prostate Cancer Foundation at www.pcf.org/garymarch. Condolences may be expressed at www.porterfuneralhome.com. Arrangements: Porter Funeral Homes & Crematory, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS (913) 438-6444. Gary P. March

Linda,
At a time like this it's hard to hear Gary is in a better place, when the best place was by your side. Gary loved his family and his Catholic faith with all his heart. He was an inspiration to me to go back to the church.
We will be forever grateful for meeting you and Gary at that big round table in the middle of an ocean.
With sympathy and love

I grew up visiting the March family with my family and remember going to the lake to go out on his boat. I also remember admiring his Camaro convertible as a kid growing up. I also admired how he and Linda built their business from scratch into the success it is today. Rest in Peace.

My prayers r definetly with Gary and Linda. And with all his family. I worked with Gary or worked for Gary and his healthcare business. It was the best five or so years when I worked for his company. I really miss him and his family. We were a small family. And when it was time to work we worked. But when it was time to play we played hard. It was an honor to work with Gary and his family. Linda is a good wife and mother. And their two daughters r the most caring and loving people I've ever met. My thoughts and prayers go out to Gary and his family. It was an honor and privilege to work for March inc. and family.
