I've just learned of George's death last year. I had included him in my mailings of our occasional 'annual' letter to relatives and friends. The envelope addressed to the Topeka, KS address I had for him was returned "deliverable". With searching the internet, I saw this obituary site.

George and Velma were influential persons in my life during the early 1950s when George was the Methodist campus minister on the Minneapolis campus of the Univ. of Minnesota and I was an undergraduate. Afterwards we did keep in touch via those occasional 'group' letters because I realized how expanding those three years of Wesley Foundation learning and activities were to me.

Many stories could be told, but the most exceptional was the overnight canoe trip George and I did in MN's 'boundary waters.' Since it was to be only one night, we paddled with minimum supplies & equipment, even no tent. That was not good because we experienced a downpour for much of the night. Very, very wet and cold. But glad we did it.

George Paris influenced my life as a child by showing me that being a religious person included being a creative person. The Paris house was full of beautiful things that he had made. Like Mr. Paris, I went to Union Seminary, I preached in small churches, I acted on stages, wrote and I see my own spiritual journey as essentially a creative one. That is when I feel most filled with the Holy Spirit - the same spirit that gives growth and creates the most amazing creatures and plants and elements in the world we live in. He lived a creation theology through his daily life. So I honor his life and am grateful for the way he lived.

Tim and Liz and your families, I found this note among some cards of encouragement when we lost my big sister two plus years ago. It's not copyrighted so I'd like to share -

"Good friends help you find important things when you have lost them. Your smile, your hope, and your courage."

Please know that your workplace friends are good friends. Please take care of yourselves and one another at this time ...

George and I met at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in January 1997. We were close friends until the end. George knew his time was near. He faced it with calm. We had a good laugh on our last visit. He was an inspiration.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of George Paris, what a beautiful and loving and sweet man, A Creative soul, he brought to life many Beautiful Stories and hardships about growing up in Western Kansas, working in the Methodist Church, living in New York City and raising a big family with his wife. I cherish my time with him at Blackbird, he read my book and offered thoughtful criticism. What a joy it was to spend time with George Paris.

"Mr.P" was my art teacher during my Jr and Sr years at Hayden.. I have such fond memories of those classes, his easy going patience and good natured attitude with his students-- probably not every day! I especially remember when he helped me set up the weaving loom for my rug project. I still have that "Cat Paw & Snail Trail" rug. He was great..I even ran into him a few times over the years, we chatted about those times. Rest high on that mountain Mr Paris

George was my homeroom teacher in 1978 at Hayden downtown. Thirty years later, we met at a Topeka St. Andrew Society meeting and became friends, talking at Blackbird about many things Scottish. George was a creative, funny, gentle man, and I'll miss him greatly.
