Marilyn Chrisman

Marilyn Nell Chrisman A Nightingale Angel returned to her Lord on April 22, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Marilyn Nell (Caruthers) Chrisman was born September 10, 1941, to Robert and Laura Caruthers in Emporia, Ks. She resided in Hartford Ks, moving to Burlington as a HS sophomore. She graduated from Burlington HS in 1959. She attended Newman Memorial Nursing School in Emporia KS graduating in August 1962. She married Gene Chrisman on November 4, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Burlington. They had a daughter born in 1965 and a son born 1in 968. Marilyn provided different type of hospital care while Gene was stationed in the military. In 1970, they returned to Burlington where she worked for the Coffey County Hospital and Burlington Medical Ctr. as their RN and office manager. They resided in Topeka, KS since 1987 where she reluctantly retire in January 2015 after 27 years with St. Francis Medical Center. She loved bedside nursing and trained many of the nurses who worked there over the years. She was dearly adored by both her patients and coworkers. Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Church, Burlington and Highland Park United Methodist Church, Topeka, KS where she was a very active member. She served as Treasure for the sorority Beta Sigma Phi. She also assisted each year with the Annual Topeka Designers Showhouse. She is survived by her husband, Gene Chrisman; her daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Terry Roberts of Topeka; her son, Rob Chrisman and his two children, Braden and Kyleigh Chrisman, Topeka; Grandson Dathan and Betsy Chrisman and their two sons, Jacob and Luke Chrisman, Merriam, KS; two sisters, Karen Adcox, Topeka, KS and Janice Brenner of Hot Springs AR; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, by her mother, father and a sister Nancy Ledeboer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave. Topeka. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday at Baker Cemetery west of Burlington. The family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, April 26, at Highland Park UMC.
