Richard Walsh Obituary

Richard (Dick) Joseph Walsh, of Topeka, passed away Dec. 20, 2012. Dick was born August 5, 1928 in Kansas City, KS the son of Michael and Margaret (Dalton) Walsh. Dick graduated from Wheaton High School, Wheaton KS in 1946. During the Korean Conflict Dick served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. Richard Joseph Walsh and Helen Darlene Glannon were married June 16, 1956. She survives. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Irene Walsh Plummer and a baby brother. Dick retired from the State of Kansas in 1990. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No.4254 and a 4th degree member of James Gibbons Fourth Degree Assembly. Dick was a past State District Deputy for the Kansas State Knights of Columbus. He was a man of kind and generous nature, who will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; son, Gerald Walsh, Weston MO; daughter, Rita, and husband David Randolph, Dallas TX; son, Edward Walsh, and wife, Mary Beth Lohrey, Wichita; grandsons, Phillip Lohrey Walsh, Connor Patrick Walsh and Patrick Lohrey Walsh. The Walsh family would like to express our sincere thanks to the professional staff at Stormont-Vail Health Center for the excellent care Dick received the last eleven days of his life. Dick was a great person and he was given excellent care by the Doctors, Nurses and entire staff. Family will greet friends from 2 - 4:30 p.m., Sunday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614. A Fourth Degree Chalice Ceremony will be held at 4:30 at the funeral home followed by a rosary lead by the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Mon., Dec. 24, at 9:30 a.m., at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery, Blaine Kansas. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Columbkilles Catholic Church in Blaine, KS or Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka KS sent in care of the funeral home.
