I had Mrs. Huttenhoff for home ec at Topeka High in 1998-1999! Loved her class. She was such a sweet person, very open minded and understanding. Caring and patient. She made it fun and dove into foods from different regions of the country and taught me some life skills every adult should have, practical skills! Like how to cook decent meals and eat tasty food. She was a great and inspiring teacher.

I'm so saddened to hear that Ms. Huttenhoff passed away. She truly was my savior and inspiration throughout my junior high and high school years. I got to tell her how her smile gave me comfort from my sometimes troubled home life. I loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.

So sorry to hear of your passing, Shirley. May God bless your eternal peace and your family. I was your student way back in the mid 1960's. You were and continue to be an inspiration to me. RIP

Dear Chalece, I have such fond childhood memories of you and your mom from my time visiting my grandparents in Topeka. I was so sad to hear from my Aunt Judy about your mom's passing. She was such a special & dear friend to my mother, Norma Carothers Groenevelt. Shirley was such a gracious, genuine, and caring person and a true lady in every sense of the word. She had a positive and lasting impact on so many lives. I am thinking of you & your family at this difficult time.

So sorry to read about Shirley's passing. She was one of my instructors at Holliday Junior High and years later she was my colleague at Topeka Education Center. She was a very talented lady with a quick wit. She could make me laugh so easily. You did not need to be around her long to know her family was her pride and joy. Prayers and blessings for all of you.

My condolences to the extended Huttenhoff Family. Shirley was my sewing teacher in 9th grade in 1982. She was firm but good and willing to help if you truly needed it, and I had a blast being her student.

She was such a joyful soul. As a child I remember my mom taking me to her home and I was so amazed at all the things she made. Then I was blessed to have her as my teacher and my children's teacher. She set the bar high for all teachers as she taught with a happy heart and always that big smile.
Prayers for the family.
