Wilma Elm Obituary

Funeral services for Wilma Irene Stahel Elm, 91, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Worden Cemetery. Mrs. Elm died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community. She was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Globe, the daughter of John and Mabel Albright Stahel. She graduated from Globe Grade School, Appanoose High School, and later from Lawrence Business College. Mrs. Elm worked in the business office of Weaver's Department Store. She was also a homemaker, and helped her husband on the family farm in Worden. She moved to Lawrence in 1988. She was a member of Lawrence Free Methodist Church, and did volunteer work in the community. She married Harold Vernon Elm on Jan. 14, 1942, in Worden. He died Jan. 17, 1980. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter in Aug., 1949, and a brother, Alvin. Survivors include a son, James and wife Delores, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Lisa Gay and husband Brian, Shannon Bruhns and husband Gary, and Brian Elm and wife Jennifer, all of Lawrence; five great grandchildren, Zachary, Parker, Madison, Talia, and Delaney. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church, in care of the funeral home.
