Wayne Brooks, age 81 of Greene County, the Albany Community, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, February 17, 2015, at his farm.
Mr. Brooks was a cattle farmer and came to Greene County in 1959 as the manager of Diamond G Ranch, which was owned by The Austin Company. The farm later became known as Big Valley Farm and he continued to manage the farm until he became manager of Johnson City Chemical (Fertilize Plant).
He was a member of Crossroads Church. He loved cattle and enjoyed playing rook at Shanks & Shanks Grocery.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Becky Brooks; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Herb and Coleene Brooks of Michigan, Kyle and Wanda Brooks of Greeneville, Ray and Susie Brooks of Crossville, and Bill Brooks of Tazewell; one sister and brother-in-law: Lee and Gerald Williams of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; and his close companion, his dog: Sally.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Chloe and Lassie Brooks; one sister-in-law: Jean Brooks.
The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services followed visitation at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel. The Rev. David Dugger and the Rev. Doug Jennings officiated. Mr. Steve Burns gave the eulogy. Family and friends were asked to meet at Fairview Cemetery in Tazewell at 11 a.m. on Friday for the committal service.
Active pallbearers were Steve Burns, Jim Carter, Kenneth Malone, Mike Brotherton, Sherman Wampler and Zak Neas. Honorary pallbearers were his friends from Shanks & Shanks Grocery, George Carroll, Dr. Charles Montgomery, Harold Ensley, and his friends from Crossroad Church.
