Paul Frederick Mier was born September 9, 1921 in Page County, Iowa, the son of Karl Charlie and Clara Elizabeth (Claybaker) Mier. He passed away on Monday afternoon, January 25, 2010 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 16 days.
Paul grew up near Yorktown and graduated from Clarinda High School. He later attended college for one year. On December 30, 1941, he was united in marriage to Lorriane Wilhelmina Miller in Tarkio, Mo. This union was blessed with two daughters, Charlette and Kay.
Paul farmed in the Yorktown area his entire life. He was proud of his century farm. He was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clarinda. He was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved to be in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Mike Costello; brother, Martin Mier; sisters-in-law, Doris Mier and Joanne Mier.
Survivors include his wife, Lorriane Mier of Stanton, Iowa; his daughters, Charlette Webber and her husband Joseph of Hampton, Iowa, Kay Costello of Clarinda, Iowa; three grandchildren, Brian Webber and his wife Tonya of Omaha, Neb., Jody Bedford and her husband Joe of West Des Moines, Iowa, Michael Costello of Omaha, Neb.; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Jean Webber; two brothers, Charles Mier of Clarinda, Iowa, William Mier and his wife Geraldine of St. Joseph, Mo.; along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clarinda with Rev. Leslie Traylor officiating. Masonic Rites were conducted by the Nodaway Lodge. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. There was open visitation at the Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah.
