Jackson
Mrs. Alpha Whiting Cox, 80, a former educator and retiree of the MS Employment Commission expired on February 4, 2017 in Jackson, MS. She is survived by her loving husband, Warren Cox, J.D., Byram, MS; daughters, Dr. Diethra Cox (Johnnie Landrum), Cleveland Heights, OH and Dr. Reggie Cox, Hanover, MD; step-daughter, Melba Faye Fairman (Grant Fairman), Brookhaven, Mississippi and adopted son, Dewayne (Zakkiyyah) White, Sunrise, Florida; grandson, Charles Taylor, III and granddaughter, Aza White; brothers, Leroy Whiting, Chicago, Il, Clyde Whiting, Fayette, MS; sisters, Mary Jackson, Tallulah, LA, Bessie Lee Mitchell, New Orleans, LA, and Vernell Counsel of Ferriday, Louisiana and other loving relatives and treasured friends.
A worship service honoring Mrs. Cox's life will be held Thursday, February 9, at 11:00 AM at the Central United Methodist Church, 500 N. Farish St. Jackson, MS, where the Rev. David H. McCoy, M. Div. is pastor. Visitation 4:00 to 6:00 Wednesday followed by the Family Hour 6:00 to 7:00 PM will also be held at the church.
