Avola Gray Shelton

Avola Gray Shelton, 92, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Hospice Ministries, Inc. in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral Services are 2pm Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Jackson with visitation starting at 12:30pm Wednesday at the church. There will be an 11 am Thursday, May 12, Graveside service in New Albany Cemetery in New Albany, MS. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Avola was born one of nine children, to Bobby James Gray and Allie Corinne Lamar Gray in Cairo, MS on February 2, 1919. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. She also was a longtime member of Mrs. Abernathy's Bible Study Class. Her love for family and her children was second only to her love of the Lord.

Survivors include her three daughters, Pamela S. Gray of Meridian, Mary S. Levanway (Mike) of Brandon and Penny S. Knight of Jackson; 1 sister, Betty Sue G. Spencer; 2 brothers, Warren Gray and Robert Gray; and 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Byron Shelton in 1993, her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
