Benjamin Cone Obituary

Benjamin Cone. Jr.

Jackson

On September 28, 1937, Benjamin Cone, Jr., was born to Benjamin Cone, Sr., and Arline Jones Cone in Waycross, Georgia. He ended his earthly journey on Sunday, September 16, 2012. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012, at New Jerusalem Church (5708 Old Canton Rd., Jackson, MS 39211), followed by burial at Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. -7 p.m. Friday at Lakeover Funeral Home (1525 Beasley Rd., Jackson).

In 1972, Benjamin became the Founder and President of Good Samaritan Ministries. He was the head of the South Central Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist Publishing Department for the state of Mississippi from 1973-1998 and ordained in 1979 by the South Central Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist. In 1979, he also founded the Citizens Rally Against Crime Program. In addition, Elder Cone served as the Spiritual Director for the Mississippi Mass Choir from its inception until his death. Under all three ministries, Elder Cone organized countless street outreach meetings, executing God's commands "to feed my sheep and clothe the naked". . . He was an artist in his own rights, having released 6 CDs on Malaco Records. He is best known for the iconic sermonette entitled "The Birds." The record company and family of artist officially and affectionately regarded him, alike, as the "Malaco Pastor." www.malaco.com

Other survivors include: a grandson, Christian Jon-Michael Cone who was always a member of the Benjamin household; 17 other grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Britton of Yellow Springs, Ohio; one aunt, Ruby Leaphart of Waycross, Georgia; and a host of other relatives and friends

Our prayers are with you and your family n know that GOD is with you. Blessed are they that mourn they shall be comforted. But I wld not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that YE sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that JESUS died n rose again, even so them also which sleep n JESUS will GOD bring with HIM. For this we say unto you by the Word of LORD, that we which are alive n remain unto the coming of the LORD shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the LORD HIMSELF shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, n with the trump of GOD: and the dead n CHRIST shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them n the clouds, to meet the LORD n the air: and so shall we ever BE WITH THE LORD. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (1 Thes 13-18).
