Charles Addison Obituary

Charles Eugene Addison

Placerville, CA

A "man's man" left to be with his Heavenly Father on July 19, 2016. Having grown up in Pike County, Mississippi, Charles lived in California the past 45 years with his precious wife, Ruth.

At 6' 5" and north of 300 pounds, he possessed the gentleness of a lamb who dearly loved his family, friends, and his Savior, Jesus Christ.

After playing football at Louisiana State University, Charles joined the Navy at the age of 20 serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War on submarine, USS Trutta, and aircraft carrier, Ranger. He was a top secret national security officer for the National Security Agency where he received numerous Presidential commendations which for security reasons, could not be made

public.

His brilliance in deciphering the enemies' code saved thousands of combat Marines.

Retiring from the Navy after 25 years of service, Charles thereafter resided in the San Francisco area where he became an entrepreneur and a nationally recognized chef, known locally as the "Crazy Cajun". Charles mass produced his mother's recipes he had enjoyed as a boy which became nationally recognized and shipped throughout the world. He appeared on many national

food networks with his good friend, Paul Prudhomme.

Charles' paramount dedication was spreading the message of Jesus Christ by serving as a Gideon, giving his testimony at various civic and worldwide events, and by attending Golden Gate Baptist Seminary.

Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charley and Annie Lou Addison, and two children, Charles Robert Addison and Victoria Rogers.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth Addison, Placerville, California; and children, Mary Ann Bowman, Santa Rosa, California, James Addison, Rohnert Park, California, Roberta Wedon, Diamond Springs, California, Paula Salcicto, Ywiapa, California; and Holly Thompson, Georgetown, Texas. He also leaves 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He is further survived by four siblings, John F. Addison, Memphis, Tennessee; Margaret Ann Champagne, Thibodaux, Louisiana; Robert S. Addison, Jackson, Mississippi; and David Addison, Bethelam, Pennsylvania.

Charles truly was a "gentle giant". Larger than life, Charles dominated all occasions. And, he knew this was not his home. His family jokes about what the Lord will do with Charles. We understood his heart as loving and compassionate - as is the Lord's. So, we think that he and the Lord are going to get along just fine.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Hartman Funeral Home in McComb, Mississippi, with interment immediately following at the Osyka Cemetery.

The family requests that gifts honoring the life of Charles be donated to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

"As for me, I will see your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness."

So sorry to hear of Charles passing. I only knew of him as the "Crazy Cajun" and the husband of Ruth. They were a great encouragement and support to Kerry and I. For me, first, as a new believer and beginning to teach 3rd and 4th graders in Sunday School. Then for Kerry and I as missionaries with FamilyLife. They have been great team mates.
I wish I had known more about Charles first careers. We pray Ruth is blessed by family and friends encouragement in this earthly transition and especially with the love of our Savior now.
