Charles B. Herrin

Hattisburg

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Main Street United Methodist Church for Mr. Charles Brukett Herrin, 86, of Hattiesburg.

He died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Forrest General Hospital.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at the church.

Burial will be in Roseland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Herrin was born October 13, 1925 in Hattiesburg, MS. He graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1943. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 10, 1943 and was transferred to the 4th Division of the U.S. Marine Corp where he served in combat in the battles of Saipan and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged on April 3, 1946.

After the war, Mr. Herrin attended The University of Mississippi where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in Business. He was a loyal supporter of the University of Mississippi throughout his lifetime.

After graduating from Ole Miss, he returned to Hattiesburg where he founded Standard Office Supply and Printing Company in June 1952.

Mr. Herrin was a man of great faith and integrity. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hattiesburg for seventy years where he served in many positions such as a Deacon and Chairman of Finance. In the latter part of his life, he joined Main Street United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Fred Tatum Sunday School Class.

In the Hattiesburg community, Mr. Herrin served on the YMCA and Hattiesburg Country Club Boards, President of the Kiwanis Club, lifetime member of the University of Mississippi Alumni and was King of the Mystic Krewe of Zeus. He also provided an academic scholorship for deserving students at the University of Southern Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Bessie Herrin.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Turner Herrin of Hattiesburg; a son, Charles Michael Herrin (Dawn) of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Martha Herrin Cook (Rob) of Mobile, AL and Dr. Jane Elizabeth Herrin of Hattiesburg; four grandchildren, Leland Cook Klim (John) of Richmond, VA, Robert Herrin Cook (Shannon) of Mobile, AL, Charles "Chase" Michael Herrin, Jr. of Clinton, MS, and Christopher Allen Herrin of Hattiesburg; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Jane Klim and Philip Turner Klim both of Richmond, VA.

Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 712 Main St., Hattiesburg, MS 39401 or the charity of their choice.

Mike and family, I am very sorry to hear about your dad. I respected him very much. He always had the right advise on anything you asked him. He will be missed by all that knew him. I know he will be playing golf and looking down at all and know he did well.
