Chrystine Vance Obituary

Chrystine Gober Vance

Jackson

Chrystine Gober Vance died peacefully at the University Medical Center on December 14, 2012. Chrys was born in Camden, Mississippi on June 2, 1921. She graduated from Camden Agricultural High School and Holmes Junior College with honors. Following her graduation, she moved to Jackson and pursued several career opportunities. It was at this time that she met and married the love of her life, Brooks C. Vance, an Air Force B-29 pilot who flew missions over The Hump. They were stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida for several years before returning to Jackson. Chrys worked for the Mississippi Textbook Board as well as the Central Data Processing Authority before taking early retirement.

An avid reader, Chrys could not have enough books on hand to peruse. After her retirement, her daily ritual was to have a cup of coffee, read the paper and work the crossword puzzles. She also loved her computer and enjoyed sending and receiving emails when it became difficult for her to visit friends and family. She would always verify stories that she heard on Google and Snopes. Her joy in life was her grandchildren, Brooks and Barrett, and when she was able she would go to any event in which they had a part.

Chrys is survived by her only child, Ralph Brooks Vance and his wife, Douglas, grandchildren Brooks and Rebecca Vance, Barrett Vance and brother Hubert Gober of Arlington, Texas, and wife Floy and niece Gayle Cullum and nephew Greg Gober. She was preceded in death by her husband, B. C. Vance, her parents Mary Barrett Gober and Dewitt Gober, her sister Estelle Vinson and brother David Gober.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Chrys Vance will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Monday, December 17, at 2:00 with visitation at 1:00 in Oakridge Hall. In lieu of flowers, that family requests that memorials should be sent to the Baddour Center, P.O. Box 97, Senatobia, MS 38668 or the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.

Dear Ralph, Doug and I are truly moved by the passing of your mother. I know how much you are missing her! Doug's mother passed away just a few years ago. My mother passed away December 5th of last year. It's a hard time, but I am comforted by knowing her hard days are over, and so I pass that on to you, to celebrate the life she now has. Sincerely, Toni (Tucker) Randall

Ralph, I am truly sorry for your loss. Your Mom and Dad were special to say the least. Memories of times gone by are like yesterday. . .Chrys and Stell cutting a mean Jitterbug; you, David, and me in Aunt Mary's back yard playing marbles, jacks and digging our way to China; Uncle Bud's ice cold watermelons. I hope you'll hold sweet, old memories close and find some degree of comfort in them. Peace and Love,
Ann Elizabeth
