Jackson
Craig Ashton Noone, chef/owner of Parlor Market Restaurant in Downtown Jackson, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011. He was 32 years old.
Craig was a beloved son, brother & friend to all of those he encountered on his all-too-brief time on Earth. His legacy in Jackson, the downtown business community, and the Jackson restaurant community is immense, despite it being cut short by his tragic and untimely death. Of all of his many life accomplishments, Craig was most proud of fulfilling his dream of opening a restaurant. This dream came true with the opening in September 2010 of Parlor Market Restaurant in Downtown Jackson. After over a year of planning, toil, and preparation, Parlor Market was a smash from the opening day, gathering numerous Best New Restaurant awards in its inaugural year. In addition, Mr. Noone was named Best Chef in Jackson by the Jackson Free Press. Craig viewed Parlor Market as not only a restaurant, but an important anchor in the Downtown Jackson Renaissance.
Craig Noone was born on August 12, 1979 in Rock Hill, SC. He grew up in South Jackson and was a 1998 graduate of Jackson Academy. While at JA, Craig starred in both football and baseball, participating in the Academy All-Star game in football and making the All-State team in baseball. During his football career he was a part of the first two State Championship teams in JA history, as well as the first ever victory over rival Jackson Prep. He also finished his baseball career as the all-time home run leader in JA history.
Craig continued his education as Mississippi College, where he was a member of the baseball team and President of the Blue and Gold Men's Society. Craig graduated MC with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 2003.
Craig then began the culinary career that would define him by enrolling in the Texas Culinary Academy/Le Cordon Bleu in Austin, TX where he would graduate with a degree in Culinary Arts. He followed this up by traveling to Italy, where he graduated with a Master's Degree from the Italian Culinary Institute, as well as serving as a guest chef during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Upon his return to the United States, Craig cooked under James Beard Award winning chefs John Besh of Restaurant August in New Orleans, Dean Fearing of The Mansion on Turtle Creek and Fearing's in Dallas, as well Stephan Pyles, the Founding Father of Southwest Cuisine in Dallas.
Craig was preceded in death by his brother, Chadwick Anthony Noone of Jackson. His is survived by his parents, Charles and Sharon Noone of Jackson, his brother Christopher Noone of Byram and his sister Courtney Noone of Jackson; his sister-in-law Jennifer Robinson Noone of Byram and nephews Adam and Zach Noone and nieces Ally and Marli Noone of Byram. Mr. Noone was a member of Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church in Byram.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 16 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, 350 High Street in downtown Jackson from 5-7 p.m. Funeral proceedings will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 17, at Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church, 6880 S. Siwell Rd. in Byram, MS with burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Boulevard in Jackson. Pallbearers will be Ross Betts, Jesse Houston, Ryan Bell, Scott Reedy, Steven Weeks, and Cooper Norton. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Allen and Mart Lamar.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Parlor Market Miracle League c/o Parlor Market, 115 W. Capitol Street, Jackson, MS 39201.

Dennis and I were looking forward to seeing Craig in his "new" digs during our recent trip to NOLA. We were devastated to hear of his passing just two weeks before our arrival. We went to the restaurant anyway, to pay our respects and to honor his memory. We felt his presence there, in every warm corner, in every delectable morsel from a kitchen full of flurry and life, in every oooh and aahhh of delight over a dish tasted, in all the happy energy of a restaurant full of cheerful conversation and satisfied palettes. Craig may not be with us in flesh but he is most definitely still with us in heart. His love still resides at Parlor Market.

Truly saddened to hear about the loss of Craig Noone. We met him a few weeks ago at Parlor Market and he was so gracious and kind. He made quite an impression in just those few moments. Jackson has lost a fine young man. Our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

Craig has had a charming confidence about him at an early age. We all knew he would be successful at whatever he chose to do in life. I haven't seen Craig in years, but cherish all of the memories from all of the baseball years at Forest Hill Youth Club, where him and my brother played together. I was at Jackson Academy with Craig. He was always a very sweet, helpful person and amazing at football. I considered him to be a great friend. To Craig's family: our hearts are so heavy as we think of the loss of your precious son and brother. We so enjoyed Parlor Market but fell in love with Craig. We had such a nice visit with him about three weeks ago when he stopped by our table. We could not help but discuss how proud his parents must be of him and what an obviously fine young man they'd raised.
