Doris Dodd Obituary
Madison
Doris Haddix Dodd of Madison, Mississippi passed away March 13, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 20, 1935 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Harvey and Eva Haddix and grew up in Aberdeen, Mississippi. In 1953 she graduated from Aberdeen High School. Following graduation, Doris married the love of her life, Albert W. Dodd. In 1957 she graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Business Education. After college, the couple moved to Mobile, Alabama for a brief period and later settled in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Doris was a third-grade teacher for thirty years at Oakland Heights Elementary School and Elliot Point Elementary School. She was a resident of Ft. Walton Beach for fifty-four years before relocating to Madison, Mississippi to be closer to her children. While in Ft. Walton Beach, Doris was a member of Cinco Baptist Church and later attended Broadmoor Baptists Church in Madison, Mississippi.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by daughter, Margaret Taylor (Lex), Louisville, Mississippi, son, Wes Dodd (Elaine), Madison, Mississippi, and cousin Jacqueline Smith Hall, Dallas, Texas. Her grandchildren are Wesley Dodd, Alexis Taylor, Bailey Taylor, and Alex Taylor.
Visitation will be held in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida on Thursday, March 16 at McLaughlin Mortuary from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held Friday, March 17 at Beal Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital and French Camp Academy. The family wishes to thank Dr. Haick, Dr. Mitema, Dr. Barrett, Dr. Alla, nurses and aids of the PCU unit, and 5th floor surgical wing at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi for their compassionate care. Doris loved her teacher friends, her high school Tri-C friends, her neighbors, and her little Schnauzer, Carrie Bell. Memories of Mamma Doris will be cherished by all who knew her.
