Doris Walsh Obituary

Doris W. Walsh

Albuquerque, NM

Mrs. Doris W. Walsh of Jackson, passed away September 18, 2014 at home. Doris was born in Potts Camp, MS, on October 14, 1923. She graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1941 where she was the first "Miss Forest Hill". In 1942, she married Capt. Frank K. Walsh who served in WWII and was a POW. Frank retired as a Lt. Col. During their years together, Doris was "The Rock" of her family, raising five children, while Frank, a pilot, served in the Air Force and later taught and retired from Hinds Junior College. Doris was a talented artisan who loved being a mother and homemaker. She could look at a picture in a book and create beautiful decor and projects for her home. As a mother, she passed on the values of hard work and getting an education - she made her children and grandchildren believe that they could accomplish most anything if they put their minds to it and worked hard enough. She was always there for her family. Doris was a lovely Southern Lady, of beauty and grace. She was beloved by all who knew her. Doris and Frank loved to entertain. She was known for her lovely dinner parties and "Happy Hours". During the last years of Frank's life, Doris took care of him and managed their home. Frank preceded her in death and was buried on what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary, April 11, 2012. After Frank's death, Doris moved to Albuquerque, NM and was living with her daughter, Frankie, when she passed away. Doris was also preceded in death by three of her children, Clair, Sam, and Ed. Survivors include her two daughters, Dr. Frances K. Walsh, and Rebecca W. Reynolds (Bob); a daughter-in-law, Katia M. Walsh; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild. The family expresses our deepest thanks to Heritage Home Hospice in Albuquerque for their support and care. We will miss our wonderful mother and would like to think of her in heaven with our Dad, her beloved Frank, and our siblings having a "Happy Hour".

Frankie, I am so sorry to hear if your loss. I know you will miss your mom. She was so sweet to us when we came to visit you a few years back on your visit home. It was wonderful to know so many of our classmates had parents that all attended FHHS. That is a connection I did not know for years.
My prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of your precious mom. Please know we are thinking about you. What a celebration it must have been when she entered those pearly gates.

So sorry for your loss... Mrs. Walsh was always so kind to me.. It's evident her kindness was contagious to her entire family.. I will always have fond memories of the Walsh family.. Colonel Walsh was a man of character and integrity.. I hurt for both of you...

Dear "Becky",
My heartfelt sympathy to you & family. Your mom was indeed a "lovely Southern Lady". She made me feel so welcomed with her loving personality when I met her during our St. Mary's elementary days. Then later at Forest Hill, having your Dad as a teacher reminded me of how special your family was. May God comfort you & family during this difficult time. You & Frankie are in my prayers.

I loved Mrs Doris and Mr Frank growing up next door to them. I have fond memories of going over to their house and hanging out with Mrs Doris. She always had a new project to show me. She was a lovely woman! Prayer for your family over her loss.
