Doyle Warrington Obituary

Doyle Warrington

Ridgeland, MS

Pride Doyle Warrington, 71, was called home to the Lord on October 1, 2013 from heart complications. Visitation for Mr. Warrington will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will be on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. at Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi followed by burial services at Warrington Cemetery in McArthur, Arkansas at 3:30 p.m.

Mr. Warrington was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Pride Doyle Warrington, Sr. and Hazel Hope Warrington. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. He worked for Xerox Corporation where he achieved numerous presidential and management positions. He also worked with Midtown Restaurant Corporation and later retired from AT&T after numerous years of service in the mobile telecommunications industry. Mr. Warrington was currently serving as Executive Director of the Ridgeland Tourism Commission.

Doyle is preceded in death by his parents Pride Doyle Sr. and Hazel Hope Warrington, his first wife Beverly Warrington and son Brent Warrington. He is survived by his wife Dawn Warrington, brother Frank Warrington (Peggy), sons Dee Warrington, Bradley Warrington (Jodi) and Byron Warrington, daughters Tammy Warrington Barker, Cerissa Ashford (John Clay) and Natalie Parks (Cy) and grandchildren Breanna, Sydney, Davis, Daniel, Pride, John Bradley, Tatum, Isabella Grace, Kaylee, Avery and Jordan.

Doyle was an active philanthropist in a variety of civic and community programs. He was involved and served on the boards of Central Mississippi Red Cross, Crimestoppers, Arthritis Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, Jackson Symphony League and Jr. Achievement. He actively supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Leukemia Society. He currently served on the Commercial Mobile Radio Service Board by Governor appointment and was a member of the Mississippi Department of Transportation Scenic Byway Advisory Committee.

Warrington was on the Board of Directors for the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi for over 20 years serving as Chairman for ten years. He was a hero to many in the Metro Jackson community providing invaluable leadership, time and his heart to care for the children and adults with diabetes. He was especially proud of Camp Kandu. To always remember Doyle as a remarkable volunteer and friend, the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi has established the "Doyle Warrington Memorial Diabetic Alert Dog Fund."

Doyle had been a Ridgeland, Mississippi resident since 1986. He attended church with his wife Dawn at Northminister Baptist Church. "Doyle was the quintessential man's man. Despite his sometimes seemingly frivolous demeanor, he had as much inner strength as anyone has ever known. One might have to spend more than just a few minutes with him to fully appreciate that. The quality that we all admired most about Doyle was his fierce loyalty to his family and friends. Disrespect one of them within Doyle's range of hearing, and you would immediately regret it. Those who were privileged enough to be within his broad and diverse circle, feel an immense sense of loss and will experience a great void. At the same time, we are grateful that the Lord shared him with us for as long as He did." - Flip Weinberg

Memorials can be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.

Doyle was a great friend to everyone... especially to his long-time friends, who always were more like brothers to him than friends.
I miss you, Doyle, and I surely miss your friend, and my soul mate and husband, Chick. Give each other a big hug for me... and Dean Allen too!!

So many of them together now

How lucky I was to have Doyle as a mentor, friend, and uncle. There is no replacement for him. I will have to learn to live with this void. I'm thankful for the time I did have with him and glad he brought Dawn in to my life too. I will miss you forever Doyle.

I am an old McGehee AR schoolmate that is saddened by the news of Doyle's passing. Doyle & I had the same birthday (March 11) and graduated in 1959 (1 year ahead of him) He was witty & I'll never forget he nominated me for President of the letterman's club & was instrumental in me getting elected. After reading his well written obit I was impressed and it sounds like Doyle lived a productive life.

God is near to those that are broken at heart and those crushed in spirit. God will sustain you and help you to endure.

We started out together as little pups @ McGehee Elementary in 1948! And, from there shared a lot over the years! More recently we had weekly contact via email, reminiscing and talking sports, family, etc.! I will keep the last message from him from last Saturday! When Bill Howell passed on the news, I was literally stunned, and am still grieving!
He was so funny and full of life, and was indeed a very tender soul!!

No way I can express how much Doyle has meant to Chick and to me this past year during Chick's illness. He has been the wind beneath our wings for sure... besides the most loyal faithful friend ANYONE could ask for. It is hard for Chick to go on without you, Doyle. I know you will be putting in very special requests for us. You never could have known how much you meant and mean to us. Dawn, you were a gift to Doyle and he loves you so much! I will be praying for all of you

Flip described Doyle well. He was funny and witty, but when it came to serious matters, he got serious. And, he was filled to the brim with a sense of commitment and purpose and just plain ole common sense.

Thoughts and Prayers are with the Family of Doyle Warrington. I was privileged and honored to be one of Doyle's assistants at MCTA ~ BellSouth Mobility ~ Cingular Wireless for 7+ yrs. He was my Birthday Buddy (March 11) and mentor. He treated us like family, teaching and training us to take "It's Not My Job" out of our vocabulary. He supported us and fought for us. What an honor it was to support him... Thank you Doyle! Your legacy lives on! :) Sunshine
