Francis Arthur Neely, Jr., age 95, of Pearl, Ms., died July 12, 2016. He was born in Natchez, MS. On June 16, 1921 to Annie Mae and Francis A. Neely, Sr. Arthur was raised there and after serving in the U. S. Navy returned to Natchez to take a job with the U.S. Postal Service. He later transferred to the Postal Service as a letter carrier in Jackson, Ms. and made a career there for 33 years.
Arthur was proud to have become a Mason and a Shriner, and also was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for many years. He loved that Big Band Music of the old days, and danced many nights away at the Metropolitan Supper Dance Club. After Arthur's wife Marie passed away, he married Inez Jones Haskins in 1995 and moved to Pearl, MS, becoming a faithful member of McLaurin Heights Baptist Church. Arthur never met a stranger, or at least you didn't remain one for long. His ability to liven up the mood in a crowd with a joke was well known.
Arthur had five sons; James, Bobby (deceased), Russell (Yoshie), Steve (Lajuana), and Dennis ( Dorothy). After marrying Inez, He gained David (Jay), Mike, Steve (Lisa), and Cindy (Darryl) as stepchildren that he treated as his own. With all his children combined came a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren that he was proud of. Preceding him in death was his brother, Jimmy, and sisters Clara Mae, Alice, and Estelle. He is survived by one sister, Marie, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home of Pearl, Ms. will hold visitation hours on Sunday, July 17th from 2-5 pm. Funeral services will be held at McLaurin Heights Baptist Church, Pearl, MS, on Monday, July 18th at 11 am, with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
