Guy Barrett Obituary

Guy Conner Barrett, 87, a retired rural letter carrier with the US Postal Service, died April 10, 2008 at Westminster Village, an assisted living and skilled care facility. Visitation is Saturday, April 12, 2008, 5-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Kosciusko, MS with burial in the Parkway Cemetery, Kosciusko, MS . Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Barrett was born July 8, 1920, in McCool, MS. A former resident of Kosciusko, he was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher, for many years. His Sunday School lectures were often broadcast live on WKOZ Radio. In later years, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, MS. Mr. Barrett was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he majored in Agriculture and served his senior year as president of Alpha Tau Alpha, the Agricultural Education honorary fraternity. Mr. Barrett also was a World War II veteran serving as a radio technician with the US Army's 587th Signal Depot Company in Toul, France. Mr. Barrett was also a Mason for 57 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Billie Wilkerson Barrett; two sons, Dr. Harris Guy Barrett, and his wife, Michele, of Mobile, AL, and Roger Lee Barrett of Primm Springs, TN; a daughter, Melody Reese Barrett, and her husband, Christopher Calvin Cobb, of Fairfax, VA; two sisters, Nina Christine Barrett, of Tucson, AZ, and Cora Belle Barrett Dodds, of Tulsa, OK; a granddaughter, Olivia Claire Barrett, of Mobile, AL; and a grandson, Andrew Barrett Ratkus, of Fairfax, VA. Preceded in death by his parents, Raphord "Rafe" Bell Barrett and Cora Conner Barrett; brother, Raphord Lee Barrett; sister, Lucile Barrett, and a grandson, Harris Guy Barrett, II. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Kosciusko, or First Baptist Church of Pascagoula.

Over 50 years ago Mr. Barrett was our mail carrier. He was so nice and well liked by everyone on his route.
I was sorry to hear of your loss. May God comfort you as you grieve.
