Iley Neely Obituary
Madison
Iley Anne Morgan Neely, matriarch of the Neely clan, died on Friday, July 11, 2014, at the age of 91. She was an accomplished artist, world traveler, and animal lover. Her enduring life's work was the nurturing of her four children and grandchildren. Most of her family was present at her bedside when she passed away.
She was born on January 12, 1923, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, at home. Her parents, Clarence Edward Morgan Sr. and Florence Annie Potts, and her brother Clarence Edward Morgan Jr preceded her in death. She graduated from Kosciusko High School and attended Belhaven College in Jackson, MS, and Wesleyan College in Macon, GA where she studied voice. After a six-week courtship, she married Dr. William (Gus) A. Neely on January 1, 1947. Their marriage lasted 38 years until his death in 1985.
She is survived by:
Her daughter, Mary Anne Friedrich (husband Sandy) of Houston, TX and granddaughters Whitney Clare Young of Austin, TX, and Lauren Morgan Young of Houston, TX.
Her son, William A. Neely, Jr. (wife Paula) of Madison, MS, and grandsons Lt. William (Gus) A. Neely, III (wife Jodi) of Netzaburg, Germany, and Martin Thomas Neely of Madison, MS.
Her daughter, Florence Morgan Cooper (husband Walter) of Jackson, MS, granddaughter Jennifer Leigh Greer (husband Thad), great-grandchildren Philip Tyler Baldwin and Iley Anne Morgan Baldwin of Vicksburg, MS, and grandson Mark Ellis Cooper (wife Sarah) of Picayune, MS.
Her daughter Dr. Iley (Leigh) Coleman Neely (husband Rob) and grandson, Coleman Neely Miles of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Anne was a member of Galloway United Methodist Church where she was active in the Altar Guild for many years. She was a talented artist and this gave her great pleasure. This was one of the activities she missed the most when her health declined.
She loved animals, especially her dog Pixie and her cat Gypsy. She passed on her love of animals to all her children.
She loved to travel and took many trips to Europe and one trip to Australia where she snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef. She also traveled to the Galapagos Islands in a trimaran sailboat.
Her husband was a busy trauma surgeon at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and she was the mainstay and anchor of the family. We will all miss her wisdom, independent spirit, and great sense of humor. We pray she has passed on these attributes to us.
Her family would like to thank her caregivers, the staff at St. Catherine's Village (Siena 1), Camellia Hospice, and Dr. George Patton.

Has it been 6 years? Seems like just the other when I hear of Mrs. Neely's death. We lived across the street from the Neely's and I'm sure she must have thought it was my place in the world to drive her crazy! She was a major part and influence of my childhood whether she realized it or not. I still think of her often along with all the others. Rest in peace Mrs. Neely.

I am so sad to learn that Anne is no longer with us and know that she will be greatly missed by all those that she touched in her long life. She was like my second mother when I grew up and made me feel like just one more of the Neely kids. All my love to her family and hope that you take comfort in knowing that all the Hutchison family shares your loss.

We always considered Mrs. Neely as a part of our family. I'll always remember growing up with her across the street and the friendship she brought to my mother. I'll certainly miss her.
