James Weddle Obituary

Mr. James B. Weddle, 84, retired brick mason, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, MS.
Visitation will be Monday, October 27, 2008, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Walthall Baptist Church in Walthall, MS. Services will be Monday, October 27, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Walthall Baptist Church. Officiating in the service will be Rev. Owen Weddle, (Mr. Weddle's grandson) Rev. Paul S. Weddle, Jr., Rev. William S. Weddle, and Rev. Josh Buford, with burial in North Union Cemetery in Bellefontaine, MS.
Mr. Weddle was a member of Walthall Baptist Church, a Mason and Order of the Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Juanita Sue Weddle; his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Paul S. Weddle, Sr.; his grandson, Evan Weddle; his brother, Donald H. Weddle; and his sister, Martha W. Lewis Wall.
He was born July 22, 1924 in Okolona, Ms. then moved to Bellefontaine, Ms. with his parents in June of 1939. He has lived in Eupora for the last 46 years.
Mr. Weddle was called to serve his country in World War II at the age of 18, while a senior at Eupora High School. He went to Camp Cook, California for basic training, and while there, he took desert training to prepare to go to Africa to aid the British, but went to Europe instead. He served in the Third Armored Division, Second Armored Corps, First Army. He received five battle stars for fighting in the following conflicts: Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), and Rhine Land. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Catherine Evans Weddle of Eupora; children, Dr. Richard E. Weddle and wife, Dr. Patricia Ainsworth of Brandon, MS, Dorothy Jean W. Gregg of Eupora, Mary Kay W. Murphy and husband, Rickey Murphy of Biloxi, MS; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; sisters, Frances W. Gregg Shute of Amory, MS and Recenah W. Lucius of Eupora; brothers, Rev. Paul S. Weddle, Jr. of Bellefontaine and Rev. William S. Weddle of Eupora; and a number of family members including nieces and nephews.
Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of all arrangements.

Wayne and I would like to offer our deepest sympathies to Kay, Mrs. Weddle, Jean, and Dr. Weddle. I have very fond memories of many sleepovers at Kay's home when we were teanagers. I also have memories of Jean worken with Mother at Garan for years and myself for a short time. Mr. Weddle touched many lives over his life time, and he will surley be missed by all. My prayers are with all of you in your time of sorrow.

Mike & I offer our sympathies to Kay, Mrs. Weddle, Jean, & Dr. Weddle. I have fond memories of many sleepovers at Kay's home when we we teenagers and her parents are just the best. Mr. Weddle will be missed even though I haven't seen him in years, I have thought of him many times, along with his wife. They are wonderful people. Much love to all in your time of grief.

Richard and Pat, Please accept my deepest sympathies in Mr. Weddle's passing. He was one of the greatest generation of Americans, those citizen soldiers who left home and safety to battle for world freedom. May God grant you both His perfect peace and tender mercies.
