John Busbice Obituary

John Wayne Busbice

Madison, MS - John Wayne Busbice of Madison, Mississippi, passed into eternal rest May 14, 2021, at the age of 67. John was born July 21, 1953, in Selma, Alabama, to Wayne and Margaret (Woodward) Busbice. He attended Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. On October 1, 1988, he married Annette Coker in Jackson, Mississippi, and began their married life in Maryland, where he worked in Media Services and taught Television Production in the Montgomery County Public School District before moving to Madison, Mississippi, in June 2000.

John is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Evon Busbice, his mother, Margaret Woodward Busbice, sister Heidi Kaye Busbice, and stepsister Kathleen O'Connor. He is survived by his wife Annette Coker Busbice, sister Martha (Jeff) Chedister, stepmother Pat Busbice, stepbrother Michael O'Connor, stepsisters Karen (Steve) Koback, Veronica "Bonnie" O'Connor, Maureen O'Connor, and many nieces and nephews.

John was employed with Mississippi Public Broadcasting in Audio Production for almost twenty years. His passion for television production led him to be awarded the 2017 Southeast Regional Emmy Award for Outstanding Audio/Live Production of the MS College Festival of Lights, along with colleague Taiwo Gaynor.

He had an immense passion for vintage cars and enjoyed driving and displaying his 1972 Viking Blue Cutlass Convertible. From adolescence, John was an avid musician who enjoyed playing electric guitar in numerous bands through the years, entertaining many in the Jackson area as a member of the band, Pieces of Time. He and his beloved wife, Annette, were enthusiastic travelers who actually met in the Dulles Airport on departure with a group bound for a tour of England. John's family and friends will miss his kind and compassionate spirit more than words can say.

The family will begin receiving guests at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4000 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, Mississippi, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. with Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Josh Cole officiating. A private family graveside service will follow at Parkway Memorial Park with funeral arrangements serviced by Parkway Funeral Home. Contributions in memory of John Wayne Busbice can be made to Mississippi Public Broadcasting, Covenant Presbyterian Church, or a favorite charity.

John and Annette were our neighbors in Maryland. I'm so sorry to hear of this news. Although we had lost touch over the past several years we think of them often. Our hearts go out to Annette and family. Much love, Patti & Steve Sweeney
