I was extremely devasted to hear about John's passing. I was just told about it today 12/21/2007. It seems like yesterday that we were having a great time talking over coffee and enjoying telling eachother stories of the past. I will miss him dearly and will remember him with his laughter and enthusiasm for life. He was an unconditional friend and will be missed so much.

I was very saddened to hear of John's passing. I worked along side him at the Beau Rivage for about a year and instantly became good friends. He was a great person who would do anything to help. I will miss him dearly.

Dear Jimmy, Dr. Spell, Mrs. Spell and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. The world is a little less bright without him but I believe John is in a better place. I will always remember him fondly. My wife and I have some treasured dating and newlywed memories that we enjoy reminiscing over. Christmas parties at the Barrington are at the top of the list. Our hearts go out to you all and we will be praying for John and you all.

To the Spell Family-
This past Monday morning I was creating a log in account in order to order from an internet site. After entering my password I was asked to answer one of the following questions:
What was your favorite pet's name?
What is your favorite movie?
Lastly, for the first time I was given this choice-What was your best childhood friend's name?
I answered Johnny Spell.
I know how Johnny would have answered.
Being around Bo, David, Tom, and both of my parents this Thanksgiving (my dad celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday) we all spoke about Johnny and re-lived so many fond memories with me laughing and many times crying. I was with Johnny during highs and lows. In Columbia one day I tasted the best watermelon I ever had when his grandmother served yellow watermelon. The same day I tasted the worst watermelon when she put salt on it, insisting that I would like it.
The memories have over flown in my mind when I think about the houseboat; traveling to Gulfport and New Orleans for medical conventions; staying at your house ( I remember being at the smaller house before you bought the one on Honeysuckle) on Friday nights but Johnny staying at mine on Saturday nights to avoid having to go to church; the Old Tyme Delicatessan for Vernon's Ginger Ale, heroes and eclairs; being a guest in Destin and eating bear claws endlessly; in Destin after dinner in one of the restaurants there that had a dance floor Elizabeth asking me to dance and me freaking out because I had never danced with anyone before and secondly because Johnny and I were both red as lobsters and it hurt when i was touched; getting the key from underneath the oil can outside-sneaking in through the kitchen and turning right into the living room while Johhny was playing the organ and being quite as a mouse stepping closer and closer- not once did I make it to him without him turning around because he felt someone there. They go on and on. However, constantly through the times that I was connected to Johnny was always his ever present smile; the desire to talk; occasionally gossip!; and his joy of life. Indeed Johnny was a product of a family full of love; tolerance; and very supportive of each other.
I told my parents that if the pastor leading the services today called in sick that I could do the job as long as I had tissue paper.
Knowing the shock and sadness that I experienced upon hearing the news, I can not come close to imagining what your family has been going through. I have been praying that God will comfort and be with you all during this time.

Dear Spell Family,
John and I worked together at Outback and lived in the same neighborhood. John was a dear friend. His sweet smile was never missing from every corner I turned at work. He genuinely cared for every soul he met. We all loved John. Outback will never be the same without John.
I'm deeply saddened that I could not attend services for John.
John was an amazing person and we will always remember him. John- we love you.

Dr. Spell and family: I remember John so fondly, as such a nice, caring friend I met in 1986 at Ruby Tuesday's, and who was kind enough to include me in the invitation to the Christmas parties at your Barrington condo when he lived here. You are in my thoughts as you go through this difficult time.
