John Winstead Obituary
Jackson
John Henry Winstead, 60, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 10, 2012. He had recently become a member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon. He loved the Lord and served Him through music ministry, leading adult and youth choirs at Forest Hill Baptist, Faithview Baptist and Bethesda Baptist Church, all in Hinds County. He also led the BSU choir at Hinds Community College. Through the years, he served as a deacon and Bible teacher, always glad for an opportunity to share his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
He loved all of his family dearly, cherishing the time he spent with them. Many memories were made with his children and grandchildren as he enjoyed fishing and hunting, coaching or cheering at athletic events, attending music events whether marching band, piano recitals or orchestra concerts, and vacationing with the family. He also supported his children through serving on the Board of Directors for Hillcrest Christian School.
John was a successful businessman as a skilled craftsman of fine jewelry. He truly enjoyed creating treasured keepsakes for special life events for his customers and friends at Jackson Jewelers. Ron Muffuletto was not only his business partner of 30 years but also his best friend.
John loved people, counting many as dear friends. He celebrated life and was known for his jovial personality and big heart. He was a very generous man and a faithful steward unto the Lord.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Carol Irwin Winstead, to whom he was married for 36 years, as well as his son, Shan Winstead (Jenny), two daughters, Allison Gros (Slade) and Courtney Stewart (Jason); five grandchildren: Cole and Blaise Winstead, Triston and Maddie Gros, and Easton Stewart. John leaves a brother, William Jerry Winstead (Shyrlie) and father-in-law Rev. Wilbur Irwin. He also leaves a host of very special friends and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Henry Winstead and Ollie Wilcher Winstead, brother, James Winstead and sister, Brenda Winstead Newell.
Arrangements will be at Faithview Baptist Church, 6603 Jackson-Raymond Rd., Raymond, MS. Visitation Tuesday, February 14, from 5-8p.m. Visitation Wednesday at 10a.m., service at 11a.m. Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park. Online guestbook www.wrightferguson.com

It's hard to believe in just a few days it will be a year that you have been gone. To me and so many other's it doesn't seem like it should be a year already. But I'm sure to your family it seems like a life time already. We all still love and miss you deeply. So much has happened in a year. Your grand babies are growing up so fast and beautiful. And you would be so very proud of Mrs. Carol, Shan, Allison and Courtney. They amazes us all on how they let God carer them and help make them strong. Oh and we are having a Faith View reunion in a few weeks. Oh how you will be so very missed. But we know you will be standing up there leading us in music, in our heart's. It will be wonderful to worship the Lord by your side one day. But until then. We old Faith View members will sing together and worship Him down here. I love you Mr. John miss you very much.

John was so special to me. He had such a beautiful voice,so many assets, he was so humble. Great smile, I love this picture of him with his smile. You knew he was a Christian by the way he spread Gods love and his beautiful voice. I'm so proud I have a special ring he made for me with my mother's wedding rings. Sometimes I think of a song that I've heard John sing and I almost hear him singing it. Love you Carol, and your special children.

He was a great Godly man. Wonderful music leader. He had a beautiful voice. His smiles and hugs were the best. He was the kind of person if you were having a bad day. It got better just by talking to him and getting one of those hugs. He will be forever missed.

I just found out about John's passing today when I went into Jackson Jewelers. I was shocked and heartbroken. I left the store in tears, missing his smile and his wonderful laugh. On my way home, I heard "I Can Only Imagine" on K-Love, and it was as though God was telling me that He had John with him, and he was filling the heavens with that same wonderful laughter. We will miss him terribly, and will pray for peace for the Winstead family as they adjust to life here without him.

John was a great friend and jeweler. We were his loyal customers for all the years of Jackson Jewelers, and will continue to be customers in his memory. I am shocked and saddened at learning of John's passing. I know the heavens celebrate his coming home. John is a very special man, whose love for the Lord but even more his unconditional love for his fellow man he gave so generously. It is rare when we get to know someone of true genuine love filled heart, and it is something I hope we all cherish in our memories of John. He lives on in so many hearts, but especially those of his loving family, those wonderful children that his spirit lives on in. The world is a better place for having had John in it, and my life forever brightened by having been blessed to have known him if even but for such a brief time. My regards and love to those whose time here is not over, and I celebrate John's life and the wonderful legacy he leaves in those hearts.

Dear Winstead family,
Bob & I are heartbroken for each of you, but we are filled with joy for John. I don't believe I can remember ever seeing John without a smile on his face. When he spoke of Carol or the kids or grands he beamed with joy, pride,love, and always had a story about one or all doing something wonderful. He and I were talking about the girls, and I said what beautiful young ladies they had made. He looked at me and said, well, you've seen their mother!! He was so very proud of Shan and this latest step he had taken and could talk about all of the grands for days. Please know each of you are in our hearts, prayers, and will continue to be for the days to come. I am proud to call him friend and I'm just a little jealous for I can only imagine what he is feeling today. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was never ashamed of the Gospel of Christ...and he spoke of his wife, children, and beautiful grandchildren, with such tenderness, love and humble gratefulness. Carol and kids, again I want to say I feel your pain. John was a great man and a wonderful teacher of God's word, through Bible study or choir. He instilled so much is Jason and Nicole. I do believe he helped Jason to always remember his Christain roots. Jason saw you could be "cool" and admit you loved the Lord. From that I know in my heart Jason was waiting on Mr. JOhn.
