Kaye Karolyn Kerr of Florence died March 13 at Plain View Assisted Living Center in Richland. She was 71.

For most of her professional life Kaye was a court reporter and worked for several judges in Hinds County and Circuit Courts. She reported many high-profile cases including State v. Byron De La Beckwith. She was active in the Mississippi Court Reporters' Association.

She was a long-time communicant of St. Columb's Episcopal Church where she served on the vestry, assisted in directing the youth choir, was a member of the adult choir, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the St. Mary's chapter of Daughters of the King. She volunteered at IONA House, a feeding ministry of the church, and for the Camp Bratton-Green camp session for the disabled.

Kaye was born in Kosciusko on Feb.4, 1944, to D.B. and Frances Kerr who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Bobbye Morgan; her niece, Teresa Morgan and goddaughter, Michelle Holt. She is survived by her husband, Ron Sweat; daughter, Katrina Kaye Kerr; grandchildren, Kane Gordon and Kaylin Kerr all of Florence; her sisters, Myrna Townsend of Wesson and Kathy Jennings of Little Rock, Ark.; goddaughter, Phoebe Quinn of Jackson and her best friend, Nelda Wood of Brandon.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to St. Joseph Hospice and the staff at Plain View Assisted Living Center in Richland who treated her with such kindness and compassion in her final months with us.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 1 p.m. at St. Columb's Episcopal Church, 550 Sunnybrook Road in Ridgeland followed by a celebration of life reception in the Parish Hall at 2 p.m.
